Downtown incident

Was out of town and was unable to catch this incident downtown involving the Fire Dept., Port Authority and Hoboken Police. Seemed like a mass commotion of traffic and street closings, fire hoses, delayed trains, etc.

Did anyone catch this? Was it a fire? Downed powerline? Tree? Derailment?

path is open now. light rail at least was free to jersey city.

From a friend at PATH, someone reported a strange oder coming from a locker in the female locker room. A PATH police dog was dispatched and reacted in a postive manner for explosives. A second K9 from NJ Transit responed in kind so it was off to the races. The locker may have belonged to someone who works on tracks and the dogs reacted to some sort of compound used in track welding that had been stored in the locker. After 2 hours + of station shutdown, the situation was resolved.

File under “police activity” at the Hoboken PATH. I was on my ride home when we were ordered off the train at Christopher street. “This train is outta service all passengers must get off da train dis train is outta service.”

So we boarded an already packed train to JC, got off in Pavonia, and took the light rail back to Hoboken.

The PATH hole across from T/A was all taped off and there were a bunch of cops, emergency service trucks, and lots and lots of cop cars.

I heard the words “bomb” and “terrorist” from random strangers I walked past the area. But they prolly don’t know anything anyway.

Nothing on the news yet.
