Bhalla: Losing trust in the people he serves?

As you’ve seen unfold here on Hoboken411 – the trail of pay-to-play incidents that have been uncovered on Hoboken At-large Councilman Ravi Bhalla has grown larger by the week. Many residents are once again upset that a candidate that campaigned on transparency and reform, are now finding out that Hudson County politics is messy no matter what badge the politician wears.

Ravi’s behavior has been disappointing. I thought he had the guts and desire to change things. Apparently that is not the case.

I think what irks me the most is that even though these allegations have come out, he has not adequately responded to them (that I know of – I may have missed that info). I feel that, OK, maybe he was wrongly accused and should come out to set the record straight. But he’s either been mum or squirrely when addressing the allegations, neither of which work for me.

I don’t regret voting for him – at least these shenanigans come as a surprise, whereas voting for some others was an obvious vote for corruption. But I’m not sure I’d vote for him again. He just hasn’t lived up to expectations – and has been more defensive than sorry. He still has time to redeem himself – I’m just not seeing any effort to do so just yet.
