A different St. Patty’s Day post…

3/2/2010:

How about a little Irish pride, for God’s sake!

Instead of the political debate, impending fines, and general mayhem associated with Hoboken’s St. Patrick’s Parade – 11th St. Crossing Guard (and Irish woman) Margaret O’Brien shares a lighter side of the annual green celebration!

“It’s a HOLIDAY for Irish pride, immigrants who live and those who died Pilgrims, by ship, who colonized nations; that followed St. Patrick and his ministrations, and all the souls from every nation, who give “honorable greening” to this celebration!

Most of the Irishmen here became Policemen and Firemen. That is still true today. Nicky Burke (an Irish Cop) just got named Policeman of the Year to March in the Patty’s Day Parade.

We even got a STAMP when stamps were 33 cents…”

Good to be reminded about the meaning and history of St. Patrick’s day. I can bet 90% of the drunks have not a smidge of an idea of what the day means other than wearing green and becoming intoxicated.
