Sidewalk Shotz: Growing rat problems?

[Continuing this weeks “Hoboken Sidewalk Shotz” series…]

Maybe because of all the garbage?

We’ve noticed the increasing garbage problems on our sidewalks – and one Hoboken411 reader wonders about the dead rats spotted around town as well…

“I wanted to write in with a quick question for other readers… has anyone else seen dead rats around Hoboken recently?

When I take my dog for an evening walk he occasionally drags me over to something in the dark, and a few times it’s been a fairly large rodent on its back! Last week I saw one again near the SE corner of 13th and Willow, and finally snapped a pic. I apologize that this is a particularly gruesome shot, but trust me- it’s not any better to happen upon one of these dead guys on the sidewalk, either!”

Rats are everywhere in New York City, but I haven’t seen any here in Hoboken. Mice aren’t rare here but rats are a whole different animal.

This town is infested with rats and mice. Has anyone ever noticed the rat traps place outside of most of the Applied buildings? Or the rat traps in Elysian Park? Those foot long black boxes are there to prevent the vermin from getting into the buildings. Forget about the rats our racoon population has gone through the roof. I have 2 of them that go back and forth on my roof every night at around 4 AM, they drive the dog nuts.

I used to see these scurrying guys all the time waiting for the A/C/D at Columbus Circle! They own the freakin’ tracks.

Whatever makes them happy.

Um, I’m kinda saddened by the sight of a dead one…
