Jessie James closes in Hoboken

Jessie James Doomed in Hoboken, NJ

Welp – another Hoboken retail shop is down and out. This time it’s Jessie James at 503 Washington Street, who closed up for good yesterday.

Seems that Hoboken is just not a good spot for retail businesses like this – as the owners decided to focus on their second storefront on Greenwich Ave. in the village (NYC) instead. Several people I talked to suspect the price-gouging on rent, combined with a difficult city to work with (planning, zoning, parking) for essentially dooming many of the businesses that would have otherwise thrived in this wonderful town!

Note: Hoboken411 asked 5 years ago whether Jessie James would survive.

Will Jessie James last in Hoboken, NJ?

10/2/2006 Update:

They’re open if any of you ladies would want to check it out and report back whether it’s a winner or loser. Is the selection, quality and price good enough to warrant their longevity?

I thought this was a story about that tattoo dude buying a house in Hoboken. #headlines_misinterpreted.

It’s a free market. If a business can’t survive, it isn’t the government’s fault. Stores don’t need bailouts.

I love this store. It is exactly what Hoboken needed. i love that you can go in and there are items in every price range. All of my friends love shopping there too. They get new stuff every week so it is perfect for a shopaholic like me!

I went in there last weekend and I was not impressed. Everything looks like old lady clothes. No one was trying on or buying anything although there were a lot of people roaming around the store. However, they did have some really nice bags. Their courtyard in the back is gorgeous.
