Hobokenpix: Viaduct Toxic Dump?
[Continuing the ORIGINAL Hoboken411 “Photo of the Day” series…]
Hoboken Photos of the Day – 1/12/2010
In retrospect – I sort of take back my so-called “criticism” of the 14th Street Viaduct Project from yesterday.
Being the adult that I am, I admit it’s better to have “improvements” wherever you can take them.
However, part of the reason I (or anyone else for that matter) might get cynical or sarcastic – is the lack of priorities in this town, and the general state of the city. To applaud some kind of park or open space underneath an industrial structure like a bridge or viaduct seems “out of order.”
In my world, we’d take care of more important things with a sense of urgency. Like our roads, the over-development, and general infrastructure (plumbing, traffic, parking) before I start clapping till my hands bleed about an obscure under-bridge recreational area in a fringe area of Hoboken.
With that being said – the Hoboken411 Photos of the Day are some toxic drums of mystery near the Clearview Cinemas. Some sticker on them says “pending analysis.” I hope that environmental testing and cleanup is included in the budget for this project, because the last thing you need is for Junior to grow a third ear just for eating an egg-salad sandwich underneath the viaduct.
(411 Note: Is anyone going to the meeting tonight? I may have a schedule conflict – and will give anyone that sends *good* photos in 10 free Rita’s Ice coupons for when they re-open again in February!)
PS – if you have images collecting dust on your camera or hard drive – send them in for eventual inclusion on Hoboken411! Please state how you’d like to be credited in your email, and a description – if desired!!
