Hoboken Photo of the Day – 12/7/2009

City contract holder Hufnagel Landcaping has been the subject of much criticism as of late – from what some people believe are over-priced city contracts, and even some private citizens that feel their prices are absurd.

However, I see Hufnagel trucks all over Hoboken doing residential jobs! What gives? Are these people connected, or are their prices actually competitive and in-line with the rest?

I have been using Hufnagel for years. They are the best around, careful, considerate, detail oriented and nice personal, all dress well and are clean and friendly. They always clean up well and they show up when they say they will. You get what you pay for in life and if you want someone who is honest, then there is no better person than Valerie Hufnagel. In addition, Hufnagel gives back to Hoboken, they are involved in many volunteer organizations in town and are always willing to help our children by supporting their schools.
Anyone who puts them down are just jealous they can’t afford a quality job.

Weren’t the Hufnagels the neighbors on the TV show “Alf”? Man I miss that show.

I used them for my backyard. They’re definitely not the cheapest but they do great work, they’re very honest and careful, and they’re on schedule. I’ve never heard of anyone having a bad experience using them. Sure, you can find people who’ll do the job cheaper but I found it worthwhile to have someone who did a great job and was reliable. (I should note that I’ve had other “hoboken based” work done at my house that was less expensive but was also done poorly and I had to fight just to get them to show up on time). It’s a similar thing with painters. We use Peter Volaric because he’s a great guy, does phenomenal work, and is absolutely trustworthy. He’s worth the premium just like Hufnagel.

I have never used their services, but know people who have. I think it’s a matter of you get what you pay for. I think their customers end up happy because while Hufnagel may not be the cheapest, they show up when they say they are going to, do the job on schedule and clean up after themselves. You’d think that is what every contractor does, but that’s not what happens often in Hoboken. I also think they pay their people a living wage.

They have had the contract for maintenance of Pier A park for over 4 years. I don’t know how much that costs.

I have used hufnagel now for 9 years they trim my huge maple tree in my back yard . I live in the next town over up north. Initially we felt they gave us the best price. Also 3 years ago they removed 5 trees I had growing in between a retainer wall and they gave us the best price again.
