Antique Bakery – Moving {temp}
Update/Edit: Antique Bakery is just “moving” temporarily until the space is renovated / re-configured. They plan to be back in a new format within the next year or two! (Sorry for the alarm!)
Antique Bakery bids farewell to Hoboken
(moves to business-friendly Jersey City)
Another one bites the dust in Hoboken. The famous Antique Bakery is packing up and leaving town effective this Sunday. Head over there ASAP to say your goodbyes.
In this case – they were basically kicked out by the landlord, who did not offer them a lease renewal. Instead the owner wants to renovate the building (condos on top) and provide a space for a restaurant & bar below. Hey, that’s capitalism at work for you.
You’ll have to head over to 279 Newark St. in Jersey City for Antique Bakery going forward. That’s home of Pecoraro Bakery.
Nice knowing you, Antique Bakery! Good luck in J.C.!
Description: Italian Bakery known for bread.
Address: 122 Willow Ave, Hoboken, NJ 07030 279 Newark Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07302
Telephone: (201) 714-9323
Yes, Ivan the baker is relocating to JC but once the bakery is converted to a restaurant the bread and Ivan will return. There will be a retail counter exactly where it was before with more offerings along with the bread. Our goal is not to remove Antique but to maintain and preserve it’s authenticity so that everyone can experience a meal inside a 100 year old bakery. We appreciate that it is a Hoboken icon and we will respect its proud heritage. More info soon and a sign will go up in the window with details.
Thanks for the clarification, Joe – that’s good news. Close call for sure!
(My bad for the incomplete info!)
No problem! I’m sorry I should have had a more detailed sign in the window. And I will keep you and the community posted on the progress. Our mission is to keep what is great and authentic about Hoboken (and Antique) in Hoboken. That oven is a masterpiece!
Another bit of Hoboken’s former character and charm lost forever.
This bakery makes excellent Italian bread!! It’s worth the walk from anywhere in Hoboken. Their seeded twist is high quality, delicious, and a must for Sunday Sauce. The older gentleman who works the counter is also a trip.
