Soul Clap at Maxwell’s tonight
Have you ever heard of this? Apparently it’s some kind of big deal. But I’m out of the loop quite a bit for anything outside of the Mile Square!

NJ New York Night Train Soul Clap and Dance-Off w/DJ Mr. Jonathan Toubin and midnight dance contest for $100 GRAND PRIZE with judges Bob Bert, Ivan Sunshine, Margaret Brown, Michelle Cable, and Terre T, October 29, Maxwell’s (1039 Washington St., Hoboken, NJ), 10pm, $5: The SOUL CLAP AND DANCE-OFF, not one of the NYC underground’s more popular monthly nightlife institutions, growing this year to around the globe everywhere from Mexico City to Tel Aviv, hits New Jersey for the first time tonight at legendary rock venue Maxwell’s.
As always, the Soul Clap will feature ALL NIGHT DANCING to wild 45 rpm magic of subterranean maximum rock and soul DJ MR JONATHAN TOUBIN as well as a MIDNIGHT DANCE CONTEST for a $100 GRAND PRIZE. Tonight’s contest will include a unique panel of judges consisting of BOB BERT ( 5 Dollar Priest, ex-Sonic Youth and Pussy Galore, editor: BB Gun fanzine), IVAN SUNSHINE (Preacher and the Knife, Ghost Exits, ex-Vietnam and Love As Laughter), MARGARET BROWN (director: Order of Myths and Townes Van Zandt bio-pic Be Here to Love Me), MICHELLE CABLE (Head of Panache Booking empire), and TERRE T (DJ and host of WFMU’s Cherry Blossom Clinic).
