Senior event at Elks Lodge

Pandering the Senior Vote

Yesterday afternoon, hundreds of Hoboken Senior Citizens gathered at Elks Lodge No. 74 on 10th and Washington – to honor State Assemblyman and former council member Ruben Ramos and his running mates.

11th Street crossing guard and outspoken citizen Margaret O’Brien was in attendance, and shared some photos. She particularly enjoyed Loretta Weinberg’s talk about health care saying “That grandma running with Corzine is a real sharp lady. She’s going to town for us Seniors. I hope she wins!”

Other “political figures” were also there, including Maurice Fitzgibbons, Anthony “Stick” Romano and Perry Belfiore, plus Mayoral candidates Kim Glatt (“She was really nice to the seniors”), Beth Mason and Dawn Zimmer. Missing from the mix were Frank “Pupie” Raia and Patricia Waiters.

Her favorite photo was the lady with the cannoli tray “Now that’s Italian!”

You encouraged me to start writing again. This book will be my
fifth! Been through 8 Mayoral campaigns and worked in some
capacity on all of them. Saw Hoboken grow along with each!
Interesting to this day, but an altogether different Hoboken
than the fifties, sixties, seventies etc….Most people don’t care about the past and just live in the present. WIERD…..

Thanks for the comment about the “show”. Last year I earned the
title SENIOR CITIZEN. IT is a whole new ball game with much to
learn, and I am. Senior health issues, medicare, Social Security, discounts on the bus and train, (N.J. Transit) TONS of
paperwork. Loretta Weinberg understands all of this and is lobbying especially for the issues that affect the greying population. Greybeards and silver haired ladies have experiences
that is mostly untapped by the up and coming generations!
Growing old in Hoboken has been a TRIP, and I have most of it documented all the way back to the FIFTIES here.I write and record everything from the inside out.
Thanks for the “plug”……IT is encouraging and not at all insulting.

Missed it due to a previous appointment. Margaret O’B is always a show and Loretta W. is a seasoned pol. Health and best wishes to all who attended and those who could not.
