The reason parking tickets get lost…

9/16/2009:

One Hoboken411 reader emailed a cell phone pic of this daily occurring incident in Hoboken…

How laziness can cost residents money

You guys know I’ve mentioned the way the Hoboken Parking Utility applies parking summonses to cars so much, you can’t count. They just stuff or wedge them between the hood and quarter panel – and often times just blow away or fall out. Residents don’t realize this, and end up receiving a notice along with a $10 penalty for late payment. God only knows how much extra revenue the city has received as a result. If it happens just three times a day, that’s $10k extra per year – or 30 times a day, $100k – and so on.

When will someone at City Hall make it POLICY to put the tickets under the windshield wiper blades? And yes, it’ll probably require TWO hands and an ounce of extra effort.

Parking tickets are too costly nowadays. I was shocked when I heard the news about a women suing the town of Chicago because of a $105,000-plus parking ticket bill accrued by her $600 Junker vehicle. The tickets, collected over three years, add up to the biggest such bill ever served by the town. Think we should we more careful when it comes to driving and parking our car to avoid incident like this. Learn more at: https://personalmoneynetwork.com

Has anyone successfully fought one of these? I just got a notice for a failure to appear on a ticket i never received and don’t believe I was parked at street cleaning time two months back.

Smart move with the extract checking – this stuff can snow ball for things we’re not aware of. I did call the DMV’s fraud line to see if they might be interested in the improper tickets that Hoboken is sending their way.

I believe the revenue story- hope the (state/local) are not working too closely together… intesting pt though the city gets the ticket rev and the state the reinstatement fees. Also with other tickets state gets multi year surcharge.
– DOUBLE CHECK THE DATE on your failure to appear. Seems like the city (or the state) is trying to drum up additional revenue. Got a notice from the DMV the other day – saying my license was about to be suspended… they listed a summons from AUGUST 2000. Yes, the year 2000 (for failure to appear). I don’t think I even had a car back then. How is that possible? I have the parking authority run an abstract on my open violations every couple months – and they get a printout of whatever is outstanding. Now, all of a sudden – 10 YEARS LATER – something shows up? Either something fishy is going on, or it was a clerical (or computer) error. Going to look deeper into this.
Disturbing. And they have no sense of humor about it if you say you never got the ticket.
