Miami Rice Pudding – Doomed
3/20/2011 R.I.P.:
Miami Rice Pudding doesn’t last in Hoboken
Less than a year and a half after they opening – Miami Rice Pudding is doomed, and the storefront at 103 Garden Street is now for rent.
I guess even green St. Patrick’s Rice Pudding wasn’t enough for them to stay afloat.
4/29/2010 Update:
Miami Rice – how is it?
Haven’t updated the Miami Rice Pudding entry in six months, so I figured I’d ask the community how you like the new treat shop downtown. I was downtown at 1st and Garden last week, and stopped in for an iced coffee (not bad) – but still haven’t tried their other products. Are they going to survive in Hoboken?
10/26/2009 Update:
Have you been yet?
The latest sweet shop Miami Rice at 103 Garden Street opened a week and a half ago.
Have you swung by yet? Tasted their offerings? If so – please share your thoughts!
10/7/2009 Update:
Sweet shop set to open in 10 days…
At “press time” (haha press time is 24 hours a day for me!) – the new “Rice Pudding and more” shop Miami Rice (103 Garden) is expected to open their doors on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17TH!
And from 11am-1pm on that day get a free cup of “Seattle’s Best Coffee” (why only two hours – why not all day? C’mon folks! A limited two-hour “most people are hungover” grand opening giveaway is a bit weak, IMO – please consider changing to all day… you know I’m right!)
Regardless – good luck with everything Miami!
8/11/2009:
Not just rice pudding!
Using a clever 1980’s TV reference – a new store is slated to replace the old Type Works shop at 103 Garden Street: Miami Rice Pudding.
With other locations in NJ and Arizona – The Miami Rice Pudding Company offers many other products (besides the puddings) that seem to be quite popular with today’s Hoboken residents – such as: Gelato, Smoothies, Frozen Yogurt, soft serve and scooped ice creams. Yowie! Sounds like it might have a winning formula!

Too bad. We live nearby and really liked this place. It was a great place to go for desert on a warm night. I’ll miss it.
The owners of Miami Rice clarified the situation a bit:
“The owner has fallen ill. He was doing very well , for such a tiny off beat location. As you know Hoboken is a tough crowd to please and he fared well considering. He tried to re-lease the space, he tried it every which way. Unfortunately without a big pot of gold, these things do not end well.
Product was not the problem. We are so sad to lose this location. We are working with a development company to remodel our idea.”
I heard through the grapevine that they are looking for someone to take over their lease. If true, they made it one year more than I thought they would. At least they took that “party platter” picture down from the exterior wall. It looked like someone puked into a 5-compartment bowl and I was revolted every time I walked past there.
There is a grain of truth in that last post.
For those local people that have yet to go here, it is really rice inside and the serve u.p a really rice portion for the buck
