Retropix: Busch’s Hotel
4/17/2009:
What was there before…
Here’s a special “Hoboken Retropix” entry today – with a cool image you won’t find in many other places.
A really big Busch
Hoboken411 reader Ed dug up this artists rendering of Busch’s Hotel on (3rd and Hudson where Marine View Towers is now) – and found an associated NY Times article about it titled:
“The Heaviest Man in NJ” (1886)…

(Heavy Busch, continued…)
Cool! I wish some of these places were still standing.
Living in this area, we often develop a blind eye to the extensive history surrounding us. It’s great when you can take a second look at something you may see every day and realize the history associated with it.

It is 300 Hudson, or 54 3rd, on the NW corner. The main entrance is on 3rd.
I live in this building and we’ve done a lot of research on it. It is a great building, quirky and charming inside.
So it is ACROSS from Marine View; sorry Midnight, you are going to have to change your mindset while walking by. And I agree about John Candy… PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES is a classic.
Great article. Love the “Fat Men’s Association”
Awesome find and great read! What a fat bastard! 😈
