Shoddy Construction: 1000 Jefferson

This morning, there was some fire activity over at the Upper Grand building at 1000 Jefferson Street. All I overheard was it was a broken sprinkler head, and didn’t make much of it. However, as several Hoboken411 readers emailed me during my micro-friggin-nap – it was much worse than that!

Cutting Corners at 1000 Jefferson

One reader was so upset – and sent the following message and general list of complaints after this mornings incident:

“This building was completed in October 2007 by Tarragon. It was sold and is now run by Gables management.

  • Fire trucks are out there this morning because of a water main break (so we have no water in the building currently). Apparently because of this water main break for some reason, an apartment’s sprinklers went off and completely flooded their apartment. Neighbors are trying to prevent the water that is flowing down the hallway from coming into their apartments.
  • Elevator constantly down on the Madison side of the building. For weeks at a time.
  • Building had fire alarms go off 2 days in a row last week and they had to clear the building.
  • The treadmill equipment in the gym constantly broken.

**All this for a building that was completed in October 2007. Unfortunately for us I am sure they cut corners to get this building done.. Tarragon as you know declared bankruptcy.

How many of you believe these so-called “luxury” units are misleading? Based on their fancy websites, they may spend more money on those!

You don’t need to use the treadmills if the elevators are always out and you have to walk up the stairs 😛 its better exercise anyway

There are two elevators on each side of the building. So if one shuts down, guess what, the other is still working. So you have to wait an extra minute for your elevator to come. Oh the horror.
