Fresh Direct is the new Scrooge

Did anyone else have trouble with Fresh Direct food deliveries yesterday? Hoboken411 reader Ian sure did:

Fresh Direct lets hundreds down

“Our family visiting from abroad, along with hundreds of other households in the Hoboken/Jersey City area, were let down by the home food delivery service Fresh Direct last night when the company failed to deliver orders the night before Christmas Eve.

On perhaps the most important day of the year for getting their delivery right and on time, customers were forced by Fresh Direct to leave their homes in search of the critical ingredients lost in the shuffle. Fresh Direct has responded with apologies for those who call in inquiring about their deliveries, a pointless offer to deliver on the next available time slot, apparently three days after Christmas Day, and a 25% discount on the missing order, all irrelevant when your friends or family are hanging around your house waiting for you to get back from the shopping.”

People use Fresh Direct because it is convenient. No delivery fee, but a $50 minimum required. Shop Rite is great but they charge a $15 delivery fee. I don’t use Fresh Direct anymore, but when my son when first born they were a lifesaver. They would carry everything right into my apartment making it much easier to care for my son, especially during the winter months when it was bitter out.

Why do people use Fresh Direct? Shoprite and A&P deliver and you can order over the phone.

Kings and Garden of Eden deliver, too.

Now get these Fresh Direct trucks out from blocking my driveway and the street!!!

I have used Fresh Direct from time to time and was overall pleased with the service and quality. It sounds to me like they may be stretched a little too thinly these days. It totally sucks to have your order screwed up right around the holidays . . .

These days I stick to Shop-Rite for staple items (although they have a quality and ever expanding selection of specialty and organic items at great prices), and use butchers and fishmongers and farm markets for the more specialized stuff . . .

ever see their trucks doing 90mph around hoboken, speeding to their next street blocking double parked stop.

Sorry for your bad experience Ian. We had a delevery slot b/w 6-8:00 pm on 12/23. It arrived at 11:50 that night. They gave us a couple of kickbacks after we called trying to track our order.Their normally efficient convenienece and delivery can’t be beat. Their quality is a lot better then King’s in my opinion.

When the delivery did arrive, it was only a singular elderly man trying to handle a full schedule in horribly icy conditions.

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
