Hoboken’s Batman spotted in Central Park!

A lot of readers wonder what the heck Hoboken’s version of the caped crusader does! (click to see previous PATH spottings).

Hoboken411 reader Melissa happened to catch “Biking Batman” this past weekend and said:

Batman dances and sings in Central Park!

“I was out and about in Central Park yesterday with some family after the holiday, and was lucky enough to spot our Batman dancing and putting on an interesting show by the Bethesda Fountain. We asked him to take a picture with us, and he charged us ‘un dollor’. Apparently, after talking to some people watching, and googling Batman in central Park, he’s been going into Central Park to ‘perform’ for some time now.

Maybe this is an explanation?”

Btw, the “This American Life” episode is entitled “How to win friends and influence people” and it was a fabulous listen all the way through.

On “This American Life” they profiled a guy named Mike who lived in Auburn (MI, I guess, I didn’t pay attention to that part of the story). He, too, dressed up in a Batman costume! He wore Superman in the summer, but switched to Batman in the winter because the costume was warmer. And he went out to bars in the costume, the whole 9 yards. Not one person ever made fun of him (to his face at least)!

His impetus for the costuming? He started dressing like this after his wife died, and that event made him figure he better start enjoying every day. Carpe diem, indeed!

I wonder what our local guy’s motivation was? And how odd that there are more than one in the world. It seems an odd choice for a grown man, but a healthy one, anyway. I suppose we all wear costumes every day anyway. At least this guy gets lots of positive attention for his.
