Deadly Black Friday at Walmart

Did anyone see this insane story of a Walmart employee killed by a mob of anxious shoppers in Long Island?

Worker trampled to death in shopping stampede

A Wal-Mart worker died after being trampled when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island store Friday morning, police and witnesses said.

walmart-stampede-2.jpgThe 34-year-old worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.

Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.

“He was bum-rushed by 200 people,” said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. “They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too…I literally had to fight people off my back.”

The unidentified victim was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:03 a.m., police said.

The cause of death wasn’t immediately available pending results of an autopsy.

A 28-year-old pregnant woman was knocked to the floor during the mad rush. She was hospitalized for observation, police said. Early witness accounts that the woman suffered a miscarriage were unfounded, police said.

Three other shoppers suffered minor injuries, cops said.

Before police shut down the store, eager shoppers streamed past emergency crews as they worked furiously to save the store clerk’s life.

“They were working on him, but you could see he was dead, said Halcyon Alexander, 29. “People were still coming through.”

Only a few stopped.

“They’re savages,” said shopper Kimberly Cribbs, 27. “It’s sad. It’s terrible.”

I read today in the news about the Nassau County Walmart Black Friday crowd.

There were people who waited outdoors in line for the store to open.

There were people who waited in their cars, not in line, for the store to open.

When the store opened, a number of people in their cars rushed for the doors, trying to cut in front of those who had waited in the cold line outside – who didn’t want to allow the car waiting line cutters to go ahead of them. So both groups tried to rush through. That worker who died was trying to protect a pregnant woman who was being shoved by these assholes when the crowd, and line cutters finally shoved him down and crushed him with their stampede.

So, for all you line cutters out there, you know who you are, the same ones who cut in line at the bus, PATH, grocery store, deli… remember this story. You line cutters are assholes.

It is documented that Walmart is known for this more so than many other retailers, and they would rather settle out of court than end this business practice.
I hope that lady who put her wig on instead of getting up didn’t get anything if she sued

Same here. While I can tolerate family visits, I just cannot imagine living out there– :P.

Uh, no. Placing myself in the middle of a desperate, greedy crowd is just not my cup of tea nor is it logical. I prefer to play a lotto ticket from time to time, instead.

It’s as if you were one of the savage beasts outside that ran over this poor man and didn’t even look twice. Maybe this will help comprehend better…. If you go to a crowded bar/club/concert there is security, right??? Well they had this poor man who was stocking shelves try and vet and deal with this crowd. I’m sorry to be so harsh but they must be more accountable for the situations they create. This is not the first time. Stop defending them please. Yes, it was ‘directly’ the fault of the skum of the earth that trampled the guy to death. ‘Indirectly’ Walmart is liable.
You have to be astoundingly stupid to conclude I am one of the people I am clearing blaming for this horrible accident. Oh, and back of telling me what opinions to post bitch.
411… this stupid bitch is officially dumb and stupid. i do not have no more to say. lol what an idiot.
CreativeAngel- no I wouldn’t feel any differently. Because no rational person could have predicted that a fire sale would have caused people to crush to death a sales rep. Let’s be honest people- did anyone of you think this sale would be a dangerous place to be? They had this sale in THOUSANDS of other stores without incident. Time to focus blame on the LI animals who ACTUALLY FUCKING DID THIS. potatochip- Oh my you are an… Read more »
