Uptown Traffic Nightmare

11/9/2008 6:29pm Update:

Temp Power Outage

Power is temporarily off from Willow to Clinton, 11th to 16th Streets – while PSE&G fixes the transformer in Weehawken.

Turtles move faster

The two bridges uptown – which are the main ways in and out of Hoboken – have been a traffic nightmare for the past couple hours.

A transformer explosion on 19th and Park in Weehawken caused Park Avenue to be closed – and diverting traffic. Every surrounding road became backed up – and is only getting worse as the night progresses – including the viaduct on 14th Street.

One simple incident causes widespread inconveniences for everyone – on a Sunday afternoon. Imagine what it’ll be like when thousand upon thousands of extra residents live here?

Another public safety issue: traffic control with a quick action plan. Public safety costs $30.mil. yearly in Hoboken.
And the Mayor appointed a new public safety director…

Was waiting for a bus at 6pm and of course NJ transit doesn’t give a rats ass about anyone in Hoboken so all of us wait for over an hour in the hell that is Port Authority for a bus to finally show up and then proceed to crawl through the traffic nightmare back into Hoboken. They need to really step up the advisory warnings they have when you call. I would have taken the path if someone from NJ Transit had the courtesy to come tell us the problem on the Jersey side. But I guess the 126 route means nothing to them in terms of customer service.

Hoboken411, That first picture you are showing up top is of the nice shortcut near 16th and Willow (note the cars going under the bridge to the right). Sure it’s bumpy, but it leaves you right at Harbor Blvd, skipping the crazy bridge traffic if you’re headed to River Road.

Last time I tried it, the city or someone had placed large cement barriers blocking any passage, in a car anyhow. Anyone know if it has been reopened? Or will it ever?

Guess this is why I had to wait almost an hour for a bus back to hoboken around 4pm?

Was just in the area around 7:30-7:45 PM and all looked peaceful, traffic wise.

But, yeah. We were Trader Joe’s bound at 6:00 PM and the whole area was a nightmare. So we took a nice detour.

Hope everyone is o.k.
