Phillies are World Champs

10/29/2008 Update:

Congratulations to the World Champion 2008 Philadelphia Phillies. They’ve broken the curse!

Game Postponed till Tuesday

10/27/2008 Update:

As the wet weather progresses north – will they be able to finish this game tonight?

With Ryan Howard and the Phillies crew rolling to a three games to one series lead in last night’s World Series victory over the Tampa Bay Rays – the city of Philadelphia inches closer to their first professional sports title in around 100 combined seasons!

Since 1983 – The Phillies, Sixers, Flyers and Eagles have not won a title for Philly.

Will Billy Penn still curse Philadelphia?

Some call this “The Curse of Billy Penn”… which Wikipedia says “is an alleged curse, sometimes used to explain the failure of professional sports teams based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to win championships since the March 1987 construction of the One Liberty Place skyscraper, which exceeded the height of William Penn’s statue atop Philadelphia City Hall. Since then, no Philadelphia major sports team (baseball, football, basketball, or hockey) has won a league championship. The last professional team to win a championship in the four major sports was the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1983 NBA Finals, when they swept the Los Angeles Lakers in four games. This curse has gained such prominence in Philadelphia that a documentary film by the same name, The Curse of William Penn, has been produced about it.”

Wish I were a wiz with video. I’d like to splice this with the Hindenburg, Hitler giving a speech, the 4-horsemen of the apocalypse and other signs of the end-times.

As a Phillie fan for the past 35 years, I’m stoked about the win. I’d also like to thanks the other posters for their very sporting congratulations.
