Do you have Brown Water?
10/22/2008 4:22pm Update:
This is what one Hoboken411 reader received from United Water:
Drink with your eyes closed
“We apologize for the inconvenience. Even though the water is discolored, it meets safe water standards. United Water crews will be flushing hydrants throughout the day in order to resolve the problem. The discolored water is the result of harmless minerals in the water mains. Yesterday, the company was testing large 48-inch valves in Little Falls on the Jersey City aqueduct system as part of its routine maintenance program. That activity caused large amounts of water flow through the mains which disturbed the sediment.
Please be assured that we are working to resolve this issue.

Never fear – NOT a water main break!
Many of you know, I sleep from 6-9am daily (plus or minus) – JUST woke up to over 100 emails about brown water – and people wondering if there was a water main break or not.
After contacting United Water (through their double-secret “back door” number) I found out that it was a major valve that was repaired in Little Falls, NJ – that caused a widespread “brown water condition” throughout their service area.
They expect it to continue through the morning.
So that’s it!
(Thanks Daniel – for the nasty picture!)
