27th Annual Hoboken Artists Studio Tour
Have fun today – don’t mix too many different wines with too many cheeses – might not be a pretty site for some!
Don’t forget the annual Hoboken Artists Studio Tour is this Sunday!!
I’ll most likely be milling around (whistling Happy Birthday to my fricking self) – but in no way can any sane human see all 40+ locations and the over 100 artists participating.
Like a (not so sane person), I spent a half hour making this dopey downloadable and printable PDF map for you guys… (2-page PDF) – All the artists and their respective locations – Feel free to print for yourself or email to your friends coming from out of town.
How many of you are going to check it out?
READ MORE ABOUT IT AFTER THE JUMP…
Sunday, October 19th marks the 27th anniversary of the Hoboken Artists Studio Tour (it’s also 411’s b-day weekend!)
Over 100 artists in over 25 different venues will be displaying their works from 11am-6pm.
You can click the Hoboken City Link here, which gives a little information: http://www.hobokennj.org/html/hservices/cultural1ast.html – but it hasn’t been updated for 2008 yet…
A good place to start is at City Hall, and pick up a tour map with a directory of the artists.
This is a great time to check out the local art scene, meet many of the artists, and do something different for a change. The whole tour is FREE and many of them have wine/cheese etc. Think of what a glass of wine at each studio at each location, for free, can do for you! I’d recommend not mixing too many different kinds of wine, however, you’ll be hurting the next day for sure!
Here’s a couple of artists that wish to feature their websites. They’re in the Neumann building. I’ll be adding more to this list as I get them.
Support the artists!
The City of Hoboken is proud to announce the 27th Annual Hoboken Artists Studio Tour. Even though there are 40 sites on the tour, we have designed the tour so that you can walk from one studio or exhibition to the next or take the free shuttle bus, which will be conveniently stopping at 6 or 7 locations around the mile-square city, including City Hall, the PATH station, the Neumann Leather Building, Hoboken Historical Museum and 720 Monroe Street Arts Center. Tour maps and guides will be available on the day of the tour at City Hall, 94 Washington St. between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
As diverse as the art itself, the tour’s popularity draws artists from far beyond the banks of Hoboken. From the shores of international waters to our own metropolitan area, you will find over 100 artists and art forms representing an exciting variety of media and design.
Visitors will have a chance to meet the artists, photographers, sculptors and artisans in their own studios, where they can witness the creative process at work.
Mediums range from classical figurative realism and abstract expressionism to welded steel sculptures and photographic computer generated mandalas; oil paintings, watercolors and acrylics; pottery, quilts and paintings on silk. Some of the featured artists this year include: Tim Daly (lyrical realistic landscapes), Carlos Page (metal sculture & furniture) and Frank Hanavan (acrylic painter – best known for beautiful landscapes of Hoboken) and much more.
This year we are happy to welcome the support of Larry Bijou & Bijou Properties. Bijou Properties has launched a campaign to fund the arts in Hoboken. Larry feels that the arts community is among one of the key elements that helped change the course of Hoboken’s history. It was a primary reason for it’s Renaissance. Larry believes that the arts must be sustained in Hoboken, ergo his sponsorship of the HAST and other events this season.
We recommend public transportation. Hoboken is accessible by PATH, NJ Transit Trains & Buses, Hudson Bergen Lightrail and NY Waterway Ferries.
