Wednesday political SPAM

My Microsoft Outlook 2007 has been a giant pain in my neck lately (indexing is messed up), but it does filter out most of the (very few) SPAM messages that Google Mail seems to miss.

Many of them are politically conservative-based emails from Ann Coulter, Human Events, Newt Gingrich and MacMall (go figure).

Below are excerpts of some of the messages that it caught.

Spam filter hides anti-Obama messages

So besides the lottery winnings, Real Estate investment seminars, and website link exchange requests – here are some Republican snippits:

  • One message from Ann Coulter said to “Obama-proof” your financial portfolio (received on 8/20/2008): “According to, Wall Street securities and investment firms have given over $35 million to Democratic candidates this election cycle. And the amount they’ve given to the Clinton and Obama campaigns is nearly five times the amount they’ve given to McCain.

If you’ve been wondering why the financial industry has been in meltdown — and taking your 401(k) or investment portfolio down with it — now you know.

Let’s face it: The former frat boys who populate Wall Street today understand economics about as well as the pinko professors whose courses they snored through.”

    A premonition?

  • Human Events thinks Obama’s track record would mean that we’d have higher gas prices if he was elected…
  • And several emails from Newt – from Obama “waffling” on several issues – to an “open letter to Obama” challenging his position on “change.”

I never see any anti-McCain messages making my inbox OR spam filter. Do they exist? Do you get them?
You don’t see anti-McCain in your email because the media takes care of all the Republican bashing that is needed.

Clearly that is what he’s saying. I assume you are being tongue-in-cheek, 411?
This sort of thing is EXACTLY what that SPAM is designed to do.

Take something inane or demonstrably false, send it around the internet. See if someone will turn it into a blog post. People read and comment. Arguments ensue. One blog post turns into five, five into a hundred. MSM notices, and covers the “controversy,” and thus the content of the SPAM is mainstreamed.

(And FWIW, I think 411 understands how this works very well.)
i thought SPAM was meant to give you a high sodium snack while in Hawaii?

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
