Wine Dad’s of Hoboken, NJ
Wine Dad’s of Hoboken
Now open uptown at 14th & Willow is Wine Dad’s. Another slam-dunk business for the Mile Square.
“Wine Dad’s? Because Dad just knows… We’re a neighborhood store. We have plenty of the popular brands.
But we use our philosophy of “Dad just knows” to highlight deeper selections: small producers; interesting varieties and regions; well-made wines, beer & spirits that go above & beyond the ordinary; the world-class producers that set the benchmarks. And we know a great value when we taste it.
Our philosophy is to leave the jargon and the meaningless number “scores” to others. We’re here to share what we know, to actually make it fun & easy to shop. We encourage exploration. We revel in your excitement for something we’ve recommended.”
We like their friendly neighborhood philosophy for the most part – but you need to realize that wine preferences vary wildly between individuals. And a lot of the snobbery that comes along with it is something to be wary of.
To us, “recommendations” are essentially worthless. Sure, we’ll take some recommendations, but it usually is a coin-toss if our opinions match those who suggest a “good bottle” to us. The excessive verbiage that goes into marketing wines – we ignore on purpose and let our taste be the sole judge.
Three simple criteria about wine for us:
1. Is it a good value?
2. Is it enjoyable to drink (i.e., tasty)?
3. How do we feel the next morning (most important)?
