Follow You Follow Me
Follow You Follow Me
Nearly 40 years ago, one of the top 10 bands of all time published a recording entitled Follow You Follow Me.
That band was Genesis.
It was a simple “love song,” that wasn’t especially profound, or as “deep” as you’d expect – but it has perspective.
It speaks of simple love between a man and a woman. Being close to one another. Valuing true companionship. Appreciating things like a physical smile or building trust. To me – this is what life is all about. The amazing bond that two individuals can have – for a lifetime.
However today, “Follow You Follow Me” has been reduced to “thanking” other equally self-serving a-holes that they monitor your soulless 140-character tweets.
In just four decades we went from making eternal love the forefront of our life goals – to jacking up hollow social media “followings” as high as possible the accolades of existence.
Humans are flawed worse than I originally imagined. WTF?
Anyway – below are the simple lyrics. For those old enough to remember the longing for love from another (opposite sex) object of desire – it will bring you back down memory lane. (If it hasn’t been erased by our superficial BS society…)
Genesis – Follow You Follow Me
Stay with me,
My love I hope you’ll always be
Right here by my side if ever I needed you
Oh my loveIn your arms,
I feel so safe and so secure
Everyday is such a perfect day to spend
Alone with youI will follow you will you follow me
All the days and nights that we know will be
I will stay with you will you stay with me
Just one single tear in each passing yearWith the dark,
I see so very clearly now
All my fears are drifting by me so slowly now
Fading awayI can say
The night is long but you are there
Close at hand I’m better for the smile you give
And while I liveI will follow you will you follow me
All the days and nights that we know will be
I will stay with you will you stay with me
Just one single tear in each passing year there will beI will follow you, I will follow you
PS – I’d like to add – that even if the entire world, six or seven billion people “followed” me – or even “liked” me – I’d always rather have the unwavering love of one person over that. It’s just too bad more people like attention from strangers over letting their guard down with a soulmate. You really cannot have both. They’re absolutely not compatible!
