Hoboken is doomed to forever flood

Hoboken is doomed to forever flood {Told ya so!}

Hoboken Aquatic Sports - Hoboken is doomed to forever floodAs I’m sure you knew – earlier today, a relatively standard spring or summer squall line (or as some may refer to as “training” storm) hit the eastern section of northeast NJ (as well as other NYC tri-state areas). Several inches of rain fell over a six to eight hour period.

This happens regularly.

And Hoboken flooded once again – as we’ve documented here hundreds of times.

It also flooded during low tide – imagine the catastrophic results if it happened about four to six hours later?

At least two CLEAR conclusions can be made (once again):

  1. Hoboken WILL ALWAYS FLOOD. Much of the city is below sea level.
  2. And if that STUPID WALL is built – rains like today would have BEEN MUCH WORSE! (Which is why EVERYONE should OPPOSE ANY “flood wall” plan.) The moronic “flood wall” would only help every 500 years, when some “biblical” storm happens to materialize.

Seriously – people should not complain, really. The facts are there. Hoboken is susceptible to flooding. Always will be. pretty standard Hoboken flood - Hoboken is doomed to forever flood

How can so many people be completely clueless?

Living in convenient or enjoyable areas sometimes comes with risks. Ask anyone with beachfront property.

Sure, Hoboken could have been “master planned” better back in the day. But it’s too late for grievances over past mistakes. Short of LEVELING the entire city and starting from scratch, not much can be done with existing properties. Especially in flood zones.

Maybe in a few hundred years, most of these properties will be gutted and re-built according to the obvious flood threats. That’s about all. But it won’t help street level cars. Or the raw sewage making happy hour chugging that much more desirable necessary.

It used to be interesting to cover the almost guaranteed flooding. No longer.

We’ve stated the blatant facts and incredible common sense logic way too many times. We have A LOT MORE EXPERIENCE with this than the relatively recent “smartphone paparazzi’s!” We see the bigger picture that you FAIL to understand!

If people won’t get it – they never will. So now we just sit back and laugh. And sometimes feel sad for those that just can’t think for themselves. It’s like a real-life zoo, but the animal inhabitants are human.

The hilarious complaints and lack of (real) sensible action from City Hall (like telling everyone “Get used to it. This is your life.”)

Instead, you get pointless rhetoric. Unprovable solutions. And a quarter billion dollars worth of citizen’s money for some potential stupid wall.

Maybe, in the end, it IS a good idea to build that wall. Then more people can realize how similar they are to caged rats or slaves.Hoboken flood - Hoboken is doomed to forever flood

To suggest that everything that can be done has been done is laughable at best. If that were the case then City Hall has not communicated that to their constituency. I haven’t heard about the Army Corp of Engineers coming in here and assessing the situation and determining the situation either not feasible or impossible to solve. Has our utterly useless mayor asked for state funds to deal with this? Are we just meant to pay a super high cost of living and then wade balls deep through shit like Tim Robbins in The Shawshank Redemption every time it rains? Shit spreads disease. This is more than an inconvenience. This is gross incompetence on the part of city hall. As far as funds to pay for this, if city hall hadn’t done all they could to keep Trader Joe’s out 5 years ago when they were 100% ready to move into that empty building on Washington and Observer, and if they hadn’t scared Shake Shack out, not to mention all the other businesses that City Hall has kept out while Jersey City welcomed them with open arms, we would have plenty money to pay for anything. #ImpeachZimmer – She is either as corrupt as her predecessor or simply incompetent. The Trader Joe’s fiasco and subsequent loss of tax revenue alone is reason to oust her and her minions.

Flooded again!
City Hall keeps approving building in the flood zone and realtors keep selling and renting without informing anyone that there will be days when the simply won’t be able to get in or out of their homes. When are people going to learn that it simply isn’t wise to buy or rent in this town?
