Hoboken Basketball Courts Locked (again)

Hoboken Basketball Courts Locked Again

The “mini” basketball soccer play spaces under the 14th Street Viaduct were locked once again today.

Hoboken resident Scott says: “Why can’t kids play there when off from school? Why build these great public spaces for kids only to lock them during the day?”

Well, it’s probably because the “city is closed” today (hence the free parking as well). It’s a stupid reason, actually. But when everyone at City Hall is on the taxpayer dime – they tend to limit their thinking and love doing the absolute bare minimum.

Not the first time this has happened, either.

Just another one of the concessions people have to make when it comes to city living and “shared spaces.”

I believe the mini soccer courts are the property of Hudson county and not Hoboken. But do agree the courts should be open during the day for use.

Closed for the most likely times to be used. Open always for photo opportunities for press. Check out the make shift ice rink. It has flimsy moveable rails that have been overturned. Go figure on the hottest of days in the summer the fountains for cooling off are off. Particularly, bad as it was over 100 degrees and a holiday.
