Holland Tunnel Cleanup

Holland Tunnel area {getting cleaned up}

Most of you know that the area outside the Holland Tunnel in Jersey City had always been relatively “seedy.”

But with the buildup of the Newport area, new developments like the Cast Iron building – along with retailers like Home Depot, Best Buy and Buy Rite, some places were quite obviously dated.

Burke’s Bar was a perfect fit for degenerates in the area – and I can’t remember when the Tunnel Diner was last open – but it they’re both going to be leveled to pave the way for something new.

While it’s too bad that whomever owned these dumpy places probably got priced out – I guess if you don’t maintain your premises – it’s going to happen eventually.

Wonder what will replace these once vibrant businesses? Another chain of some kind, or something else?
