Why is Pier C Park dying? {update}

Pier C Sprinklers on – People off

After seeing Hoboken411’s post about the dying grass at Pier C Park – the city took action.

But as always, they botched it again.

They had the sprinklers on at prime time!

As a result, hardly anyone could use the grass or the benches. Which was one of the purposes of this park to begin with.

WTF? What’s wrong with Pier C Park in Hoboken?

We’ve talked about “infrastructure issues” regarding the parks in Hoboken recently. Much of the problems seem to relate to the plumbing. Especially at Pier C Park.

Whether it’s no kiddie fountain at Pier A Park, or malfunctioning (wasteful) fountains at others. It appears the city of Hoboken has issues when it comes to “getting wet.”

The current mini-crisis is over at Pier C Park. That grass, despite being surrounded by water – is bone dry, and practically hay at this point. (Or even better, kindle.)

One errant cigarette butt on a windy day, and we may have an entire park on fire. Who the heck knows.

But Pier A Park, the grass is fine. So it must be the irrigation system that has been neglected. Thank God bike lane paint doesn’t need water, or the city would be up the creek.

With a $120 million dollar budget for a mile-square city, you’d think the most basic tasks would be handled better than white-glove concierge service at a five-star hotel in Manhattan. But it’s not – and it should make you challenge the competency of the so-called leadership less than a third of the city elected into office.

(Bring itch ointment to this park if you intend on sun-bathing…)

Watering the grass during the day is wasteful. I wish the city cared more about the environment and water conservation.

Poorly maintained parks has been the signature of the Zimmer Administration since she took office. It’s a shame that she continues to let existing parks become run down. She and her cronies are clueless when it comes to park maintenance.

Every Hoboken CIty Park – dead grass and holes where there should be lawns. The Admin is also spending tax payer dollars on Fundraising for their next election!
