Porter Collins – Doomed

Porter Collins lasts six months in Hoboken

Well – just about six short months since officially opening in Hoboken, Porter Collins has apparently closed down.

There are several theories out there that may or may not have played a role in the demise.

  1. Cost / quality disparity. Many reviewers said it felt like a “corporate cafeteria,” and that the food wasn’t up to par with what they were charging.
  2. Some folks said the help wasn’t too good, while others said it seemed there were more people working there than actually eating!
  3. Maybe Anthony Pino stretched himself thin? Tough to maintain quality control when you can’t be in all places at once.
  4. Perhaps it was a business partnership that was longer working out.
  5. Bad location? Who wants to see a car wash and gas station while paying $25 for meat on a bun?

We’re not sure if this is temporary or not. But it’s too bad things like this fail so fast. We hadn’t received any official reason back as of this evening.

I guess “selfies” with mimosas just don’t have the pull they used to.

Porter Collins (coming soon to 15th & Willow)

porter collins hoboken coming soonAs we’ve mentioned previously, a brand new restaurant venture by local Chef Anthony Pino (of Bin 14 and Anthony David’s fame) is coming later this spring or early summer to the corner of 15th Street & Willow Avenue: Porter Collins.

Porter Collins is projecting their intended image as: “Bold, original, exceptional easy elegance – unexpected luxury.”

And despite not even being open yet, they are already the “go-to spot for classically crafted cocktails and inventive American cuisine, served with effortless glamour and easy charm. The perfect place for a great night on the town or an extraordinary event.”

Gotta hand it to them! They’re definitely not short on optimism and confidence!

But if their previous restaurants provide accurate evidence, it would be safe to say it’ll be done right. Mr. Pino is definitely a perfectionist, and enjoys his craft more than enough to ensure they won’t be slacking off!

(Oh, and they’re hiring – head over to their employment opportunity page to get the ball rolling).

Good luck with your latest endeavor, Anthony – and can’t wait to see what the final product looks like.

This place looks amazing. I have heard about some of the things they are doing and this is certain to be a new favorite in Hoboken. It looks like some of the new partners involved are helping bring cool dining to our town….
