What Hoboken tax cut?

Hoboken tax cut non-existent {can’t say that about bike lanes}

Back when (current) “mayor” don Zimmer was peddling for votes – she made a Hoboken tax cut a cornerstone of her campaign. “I will cut property taxes by 25% in the first year alone!” she cried.

Well – Hoboken property taxes are going up again. Even though they’re “blaming” it on their platinum health benefits – it’s probably to pay for all those bike lanes and street markings.

Proposed budget would raise property taxes for Hoboken residents

Increase in employee health coverage blamed for average per-household hike of $67

“Residents in the city of Hoboken may see their property taxes rise after the new 2016 budget was unveiled. The budget included an increase in the municipal property tax rate of $13 per $100,000 of assessed value, which comes out to a $67 increase on average.

The budget also includes a $107 million spending plan, which rose mostly due to a $1.8-million hike in the cost of health insurance premiums for city employees.

Also affecting the budget is money allocated to pay back taxpayers who won tax appeals, and the city’s $20 million capital improvement plan.

The council has voted to accept the proposed budget, and could adopt it after a public hearing scheduled for April 20.”
