O’Bagel Hoboken now open

Carb places don’t set an alarm off for us – but still worthy to know that O’Bagel had opened up yesterday at 6th & Washington.

Now you can soak up those carby beer suds with some carby bagels!

Interesting to see how the bagel competition fares out over the course of this year – and how “loyal” existing customers will be.

Description: Bagel shop.

O’Bagel Hoboken – 600 Washington Street

Opening soon in the space formerly occupied by S. Sullivan’s bar at 600 Washington Street is O’Bagel. Here’s what they have to say about themselves:

O’Bagel is a family-owned and operated business with four New Jersey locations. It started as the vision of Sam, who wanted to put his expertise of hand rolling bagels into a suburban community that respects and appreciates fresh quality bread made from hand-selected ingredients. No preservatives, no additives. Our products are always created fresh daily.

O'bagel Hoboken new jerseySam named the business after his wife’ s surname. The name was chosen for good luck as our business is all about our loyal commitment to family, community and serving the finest food quality. We are proud to be serving the community for nearly two decades.

Our original location at 1168 Valley Rd in Stirling, NJ was our home away from home. On many nights Sam could be seen rolling bagels late into the evening and then baking behind the oven before sunrise. Janette, Sam’s sister and business partner, maintains that same tradition of exemplary service for our neighbors, friends, and customers at the Stirling location. With two additional locations added in 2003 at Riverwalk and Dewy Meadow, our O’Bagel family has grown along with our loyal fan base. Sam’s wife enjoys the Dewy Meadow location and works closely with the community. The next generation has also been involved with carrying the family tradition and can been seen working side by side with their parents. Sam remains a constant Bagel Master at all locations. We look forward to serving you.

Stop in and sample the finest quality products made with you–the customer–in mind. We serve our neighbors, family, friends and community. We’re happy to include you in that list.”

The Hoboken location will be run by their son Stephen El-Hassan, who signed the lease for this location back in the spring of 2015.

How will O’Bagel affect the bagel chemistry in Hoboken?

For one, Hoboken certainly does NOT have an overload of bagel places. In fact, we’re a bit short, considering the bagel place on 14th St. closed a few years ago.

However, this location is sort of close to two other bagel shops in town – Hoboken Hot Bagels a few doors up and Bagels on The Hudson two blocks north.

I wonder if those existing locations will see declining sales for people (especially those who come from the south). There were long lines on New Year’s Day – so I suspect those guys might be a bit nervous. Even more so if O’Bagel turns out to be a hit.

If the prices for their other locations are the same – It will cost $0.95 per bagel ($1.60 with butter, $1.95 with cream cheese) – which sounds fair. Who knows, maybe Hoboken rents might affect those prices. We’ll see as they get closer to opening.

They have many items on their menu besides bagels. Sandwiches, salads, wraps, panini’s and more. Plus a whole variety of breakfast options (eggs, hash browns, bacon you name it). You can also have O’Bagel cater your event as well.

Good luck to O’Bagel in 2016!

I don’t want to stop patronizing long time Hoboken establishments. What a shame it would be if one of them failed as a result of this new bagel shop. I hope they can all succeed as well as up the product quality and value.

I would attempt a visit but not with the bicycles on the sidewalks.

Seems odd to choose the same block as Hoboken bagels. Uptown is where the need is since Uptown Bagels closed and with all the new buildings being built. We will see, but I will stay mostly loyal to Hoboken Bagels.

I’ve been to their other locations, and Hoboken is in for a treat.
