Practical Christmas Gifts 2015 (part 6)

Continuing this fun holiday buying guide Practical Christmas Gifts 2015 – today we present part 6 – “CLEAN!”

Practical Christmas Gifts in 2015: Clean up your life!

There are so many “cleaning” products out there – it can be daunting. And sadly, many of the good cleaning products have either been stripped from the market, or are very hard to find – on purpose. They want you in the “disposable” model (like Swiffers) to keep you buying crap until you drop dead. Even then, the cleaning ladies will need that crap too. So let’s find the worthwhile products.

Best mop on planet earth

super pva mopLike we mentioned above, most cleaning products are designed to fail fast (planned obsolescence).

People who enjoy clean floors (and especially those with pets), all have some kind of mop. If you’re stupid you have those refill wipe-mops. Dumb. A little better is a re-usable sponge mop, and they require proper care – or they get moldy. They fall apart quick too.

The best mop on planet earth (that I can find) is the Super PVA Mop from Super Cool Products. Nothing better. Crazy absorbent, does not harbor germs, and lasts FOREVER.

That website has other top notch cleaning products too. Brooms, cloths and buckets. Sign up to their email list, and they send out a “Super Saturday Deal” every week. They don’t spam either, which is nice.

We highly recommend them!

Don’t ignore your hands!

mr. clean bliss glovesKind of funny, I see people all the time doing all sorts of work. Dangerous work (with power tools), dirty work (with harsh chemicals), and the percentage of people not wearing gloves to protect their valuable hands is not as high as you’d think.

We use gloves for almost any job that involves even the slightest risk. And even just plain old messy jobs. Here’s a list of options for those who might actually care about their digits:

  • Mr. Clean Bliss Gloves. For all your common household tasks, these are now the “king of the hill” in terms of quality and comfort. Kind of sucks that it takes a while for a quality product to hit store shelves. And knowing our history – these will not last long before they’re replaced with something of lesser-quality. So stock up on them!
  • Gorilla BPA Free Disposable Food Grade Gloves. Anyone who loves to cook should have these in their kitchen pantry. Disposable kitchen gloves are a fantastic “tool” to have at your, uh, disposal. You can mix salads, make an awesome meatloaf, or even handle “risky” raw meats with nothing to worry about, and no greasy hands to contend with afterward.
  • custom leathercraft work gloves practical christmas gifts

  • Lastly – if anyone you know works outside – gloves are a definite requirement. We like the Cutsom Leathercraft brand of work gloves. They make a range of gloves, from light duty, all the way up to super heavy-duty. They last a long time even under tough conditions and repetitive tasks that destroy other gloves in a hurry. Highly recommended.

Of course, cleaning or doing work aren’t the only reasons to consider giving gloves this Christmas.

Naturally, gloves are a necessity in the winter, even if you just wait for the bus on Washington Street. Other good glove gift ideas include cut-resistant kitchen gloves as well as gardening gloves too!

Only ONE vacuum recommendation going forward

miele vacuums are the best in the worldDon’t bother “researching” any vacuum cleaner. I truly believe the entire vacuum industry is a sham – with the lone exception of MIELE VACUUMS (German made).

They are worth every single solitary penny you spend on them, and the word “Dyson” will never come to mind ever again. Yeah, they’re THAT GOOD. Anything Miele makes is worth it.

That’s it for this week. Remember, don’t worry about what people think about the “worth” of the gift you give them. If you’re a conscientious person, and have decent friends and family, they should appreciate your unique ability to fulfill an otherwise unmet need.

Don’t forget to catch up on previous Practical Christmas Gift ideas, either!

I second the Miele vacuum endorsement – they are expensive but actually work and take a pretty good beating to boot. Dog hair off rugs? No problem, one or two passes. Need I say more? Cords are nice and long, sturdy weight, retractable mechanism never fails, and they have a bumper that makes it easy to pull them by all the furniture corners, legs, etc. Once you have tried a Miele, you won’t ever go back to any other brand. (No, I don’t sell them or have any connection other than having two labs that shed and one miele that conquers that).

Word on the Miele too! We spent almost a grand on the C3 pet model and it is perfect. We expect to have it for a lifetime. It just works the way it should.

A good snow shovel is also hard to find and in the planned obsolescence group. This is why the stores always have hundreds of shovels on display each winter.
