No nextbikes on sidewalks!

Haha! No nextbikes on sidewalks, please

Not sure if you noticed this – but Hoboken’s newfangled cycle sharing system nextbike has a certain “safety message” on their kiosks.

Included in that list of common sense items (probably for legal reasons) is no bikes on sidewalks.

But as we’ve detailed in the past – biking on the sidewalk is considered normal in Hoboken, and no one enforces that “law.”

nextbike stay off sidewalks 720x200 - No nextbikes on sidewalks!

To round out the list:

  • Obey signs
  • Yield to pedestrians
  • Signal turns (who does that?)
  • Ride with traffic (yeah, okay)
  • Wear a helmet (why don’t people just wear helmets all the time, even when walking and sitting?)
  • Ride sober (Ever try riding a bike drunk? Not an easy task!)
  • Watch car doors (while riding in those bike lanes which are exactly next to… car doors)
This whole thing is comical.

I nearly got run over not once, but twice in the last week by these two wheeled tanks. One skinny guy even had to nerve to yell at me ON THE SIDEWALK!

Worst decision the city ever made. Let’s make life MORE complicated.

Will bikes be available from Dec-March in the dead of winter? Between UBER and these bikes right by the Path Cab station it is just a matter of time before some Pakistani who spent his whole families life savings on a Taxi License takes matters into his own hands with an AK47 Tony Montano style.

Takes matters into his own hands (with the help of 100,000 of his new refugee friends infiltrating our country).
