No summer fun at Pier A Park

Dead fountain means no kiddie fun at Pier A Park in Hoboken

What a summer downer!

Pretty much every summer season, the fun water fountain at Pier A Park downtown is in full swing.

Jovial kids splashing around, cooling off during the hot, humid days that are typical in the Mile Square. Even local bums get to “freshen up,” much to the delight of residents and visitors.

But summer of 2015 is a total bust!

The entire system is not just defunct – it’s non-existent! All the pipes are now gone. There were plastic bags and other garbage piled up nearby as evidence of the void.

Oh well. Perhaps it doesn’t matter if this whole thing just sinks into the Hudson and they can “rebuild” something else. Maybe it’s time to remove this from city control and hand it over to a private entity (with competence?)

I was told that there is nobody currently working for the City who can clean the filters on the pumps that make the fountain work. As a result, the pumps got all clogged and ultimately failed. It seems the the Director of Soccer and Nothing Else wouldn’t pay to have someone trained and this is the result. It’s shameful that such an incompetent bunch have been entrusted with our tax dollars. Why doesn’t Zimmer go down to Pier A with her newly hired, taxpayer funded PR guy and take pictures of her Administrations’ handiwork?
