Sorellina Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar
Sorellina Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar opens in Hoboken, NJ
While we feverishly enjoy cooking our own (fresh, economical) food at home, we’d like to announce that Sorellina Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar finally opened earlier this week in Hoboken (1036 Washington – the former Helmers’ German Restaurant).
We like what they’ve done with the place, and can somewhat appreciate their artisan “minimalist” menu. I can almost predict that the quality of their food will be top notch.
But the food is pricey and the options are few. So they must have massive faith that their food “knocks the socks off” people in order to retain repeat customers. I like that attitude, actually. It’s not NYC Park Ave. pricing, but still a notch above what most Hoboken residents are “used to” paying. Then again (besides gas), the price of everything is through the roof these days.
I wish Sorellina great luck, and hopefully they possess the necessary passion to keep the business open for a long time to come. We might swing by one day if our own cooking skills get tired and need a break.
See opening menu below (subject to seasonal changes…)

Sorellina Italian Kitchen – Hoboken, NJ – 1036 Washington St.
April 30, 2015 Update:
Taking place of Helmers’ at 1036 Washington Street will be an Italian restaurant called Sorellina’s.
The new owners hope to be finished with renovations sometime late summer, early fall. Much of the layout of the space will remain the same (like the bar), but will be spruced up and brightened as much as possible.
It will be more of a “casual fine dining” establishment, focusing on “entree” style Italian (as opposed to tapas, etc.) The owner has a culinary background, but prefers to manage the business rather than slave in the kitchen. Sorellina in Italian means “little sister.”
Good luck to Sorellina’s – and stay tuned as they make progress with the changeover!
