Armed robberies are nothing new – but a shooting?

Word on the street is that a young urban professional was robbed at gunpoint last night in the area of 8th & Madison Street (near Shoprite). The little details we received indicated they may have been shot in the leg.

Street robberies have happened countless times in Hoboken – with some kind of “weapon” being brandished. Which is why it’s always best to travel in groups, and to avoid seedier areas in the wee hours of the night.

But if this is true – what can one do to prevent situations like this outside of complete avoidance? (Or closing the light rail station after 9pm).

Should more ordinary citizens apply for conceal carry permits? My guess is that if more of the (responsible) population was armed (and the thugs knew it), then these types of incidents would never happen.

You cannot believe that arming everyone would make us safer. Have you been out in Hoboken at 3 am with all the drunks. I am not sure I want them armed. All research ever done shows higher gun control results in less gun deaths. That’s my vote

good luck with that. Only the criminals have guns when it’s a crime to own a gun.
