Many families opt for a day care program but this place truely teaches the children. I never been to a day care where the infant families had a Parent Teacher conference. This was a surprised to us but when we met with the teachers, we were amazed at how much they were able to say about our child. The teachers also email the parents a weekly update and a monthly newsletter. All the teachers attend Saturday training to continue to suppor the program. Yes, they may have more school closings than a typical day care but they are there to do more than diaper changing and sing a few songs. When you go to public schools not only do they close early but they have a lot more school closings. The school is opened 11.5 hours a day and they open one out of the two weeks in August they are close. Overall, I don’t want my child sitting in one place all day long….and BBL allows families to come and visit anytime. My child is happy and learning at the same time….that is best of the best! 🙂

Pretty good “objective” review above by YoBoken. I would like to point something out, though – if you think BBL has a lot of school closings, you are in for a world of surprise if your child(ren) ever go to public school in Hoboken. There are MANY more days off, and MANY more early dismissals (12:30, not 5:30 as at BBL).

Also, BBL is closed for 2 weeks in August. This seems excessive to a lot of parents. But they close the school so that they can repaint the entire facility, plus prepare it for possible configuration changes for the upcoming year. I never understood why people though it was a big deal to be closed for a couple of weeks in August, though. Don’t you think kids need a break from daycare if they go all year? Remember how good it felt to have summers off as a kid? Everyone needs a little break, even small children. I always thought that this mandatory closing in August was a blessing in disguise for the little ones.

Seriously, enjoy the full coverage provided by BBL. May not sound like “full” coverage right now, but it truly is.

We have a child at BBL South. BBL offers a good in-class experience and the South location is convenient to the PATH for commuters. The staff in the class is generally very good and the kids are happy there and develop close relationships with the staff and classmates. They have music programs, puppet shows, cooking activities, field trips to the market and outdoor playtime which is a nice mix of activities. They also have a view of the river that enables them to watch the boats go by during the day if they like. The worst of it is that BBL is closed for virtually every conceivable random holiday plus the full boat of public school holidays and a week in August. If you do the math, this pushes up the effective rate per month substantially. The only way to make BBL work is to have a pretty reliable 2nd string daycare resource like a babysitter that you can pay to fill in the gaps like Columbus Day, Veterans Day and Dec 23rd when BBL is closed. Or you can miss a lot of work, which isn’t such a bad thing if you get to spend the time with your child. Other details worth noting: no chocolate allowed in the meals you send to school; no real discipline like timeouts employed to modify behavior; English-only classrooms; bizarre methods of compelling parent participation (e.g.asking 15 parents to each carry a single, unboiled egg to school for an activity instead of just… Read more »

Hickory Dickory Dock… this chick was sucking my OHHH!

Sorry – one other point.
The “creepy” chanting of Hickory dickory dock?? You must be kidding me. Not sure if you have kids, but I can attest to the fact that sometimes you do sing alongs as you go through the day to keep them entertained and engaged. Get 13 of them singing a simple song- do you think it is going to sound like the Von Trapps?

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
