Do you dig Mondo Dogs in Hoboken?
Typically, when I see a hot dog cart around town, it kind of blends in with the scenery. However, I took notice to Mondo Dogs for a different reason. I saw some flashy postcards around town, and was wondering how I could miss some new greasy food place in town. That’s when I found out it was just a rinky dinky cart! The post cards make it seem like a much more “put-together” operation.
What is Mondo Dogs exactly?
Anywho – In addition to normal Sabrett’s Hot Dogs, they have seven “specialty” hot dog concoctions that sort of make me sick to my stomach.
Like the Peanut Butter Cheddar Bacon Dog (peanut butter, cheez whiz, and bacon). Or the Samurai Dog (wasabi mayo, wasabi peas, cole slaw and soy sauce?) And who would combine an actual hot dog with marshmallow fluff, peanut butter and chocolate syrup (That’s the “skunk dog”)?
I don’t know, but they’re apparently doing well? They offer delivery which is neat – because I guess sometimes you’re just “in the mood.” But one thing I’d try on their menu is the “Big Chili Cheese Nacho Bowl” with jalapenos and sour cream. For four “low carb bucks” perhaps it’s worth a try. I might ask for the processed cheese to be left off, though (and taste it in the privacy of my own home “just in case.”)
Good or bad, it most certainly is unique branding, that’s for sure!
