Hoboken Movie Lineup: 10/10/2014

Oh boy. It appears to be the “lull” period in the Hoboken Cinemas. A couple mediocre flicks released this weekend. The Judge (Robert Downey, Jr., Robert Duvall) looked like a semi-decent trailer – but got evenly mixed-reviews (i.e., it’s probably not worth paying top dollar for first run big screen theater prices). And Dracula Untold, a “gothic” flick that appears to be a mix between “300” and “Twilight.” Wasn’t sure which trailer to show – but I think the blood-curling one is better material.
For one, Dracula got very weak reviews (not that those matter anyway), but what I’m more concerned with is this trend of similar movies. On the video streaming networks, Dracula out-viewed The Judge at least 3 to 1, which means that you can guess which demographic cares more. The movies for the “Millennial” generation are downright pathetic in my opinion. Sociological messages embedded, along with all the superficial garbage which defines that section of the population. In other words, the more complicated and thought-provoking, the lesser chance you’ll have at grasping the attention of a younger person. The more “CGI,” and pseudo-desperate situations – the better. And the fact that one movie is an “A.D.D. Friendly” 90 minutes, and the other is two and a half hours – further adds to my observation about demographics.
On a side note – I watched an old-school classic the other day. Remember the line “Listen you deaf fuck, I gave you a chance, and you BLEW IT!”? Very good performance from an actor you wouldn’t expect a little bit of character finesse from. You can get a Blu-Ray triple feature starring this actor for just 10 bucks. Not a bad purchase at all for an all-star cast (Rambo and Lock Up were the other two if the quote didn’t clue you in…)
