Another water main break!

2/6/2008 Update:

The Chinese have a “Year of the…” ONCE each year. Hoboken so far has had the “Year of the”: Fire, Water Main Break, Accident, Fundraiser, etc. ALREADY this year!!!

A 20 foot water spout was coming from the ground at 5th and Clinton Streets since about 1:05am.

Nearby residents heard a loud noise, and even some thought it could be gun shots. Others came by on their way home from local bars. But one thing is for sure, this second water main break since yesterday morning was much larger than the first. My guess it’s either an 18 or 24 inch pipe, or larger.

United Water personnel arrived on the scene about an hour after it broke, and began shutting down valves on 5th and 6th streets. Obviously, no official word yet as to what happened exactly, and when it expects to be repaired. Uptown, water is fine at this point (2:30am)

Officers on the scene said the geyser lowered since United Water began work.

Here’s one picture, a video, and see the rest in the gallery below. Pictures by Hoboken411 and a guest shot by Vito Lanzo.
(FYI, I know I misspelled “Main”… I can’t edit it unless I re-upload everything… not gonna do it!!)

Just 90 minutes after publishing the past update about the boil water advisory, the police have been notified about ANOTHER water main break near 10 Church Towers.

Police have said “a waterfall” is there now!!

Question for some readers, lets say this happened in front of your house and after the “repair” they didnt fix the asphalt properly and now everytime it rains it looks like lake placid in front of your house and sidewalk….. who do you ask for help?
Was that parking spot legal? They looked like they were parked pretty close to the hydrant. Hmmm. Lots of people illegally park on that corner, too bad!
maybe they’ll get a ticket on their totaled car… That happened back a few years ago when Stevens was blasting Castle Point for the Babbio Center and a boulder crushed an illegally parked car.

damm, that was amazing. I live 2 blocks from that & didn’t hear anything. I wonder how badly that persons car was flooded inside… what a drag.
Must-get-scanner… missing great photo opportunities!
