Shanty town at soccer field

Shanty town at Hoboken soccer field

Did you know that one of Hoboken’s newest (“need a permit to use”) parcels of “open space” uptown also came with a luxurious homeless village?

That’s right – no “park” is ever considered complete without one. This shanty town over at that soccer field uptown is over the top! Neatly organized rows of black plastic garbage bags (where are the anti-plastic environmentalists now?), fancy luggage and even premium outdoor furniture! These lucky guys may even have more square footage and skyline views than most Hoboken residents! And no nagging quarterly property tax bill either!

Are you asking yourself where you went wrong in life?

It is one homeless man who occupies the space and has apparently been there forever (10 yrs +!). I voiced my concerns to both hoboken & weehawken police 2 yrs ago when i first moved nearby. Both police forces told me its within the other town’s jurisdiction, of course. However, they both shared the same sentiment that he’s a harmless old army vet in an effort to try to alleviate my concerns. With the park there now I am really shocked that there hasnt been more of an effort to try to find him housing somewhere else. Before the factory got knocked down i used to joke that he had better living accomendations than me…a mansion in the winter (the old macy’s factory) and a water front property in the summer (under the bridge)!

Betcha they have more rights then rents in Hoboken. Plus the local gov cronies can not raid their trust like the Mayor wants to do to the Affordable Housing Trust.

Please vote on June 3rd for County Freeholder.

And look at that beautiful mural they created. What an amazing work of public art!
