Jazz: Playin’ for Keeps

2/5/2008 Reminder:

An alternative to getting smashed on Fat Tuesday next week:

Jazz sounds of “Playin’ for Keeps”

St. Matthew Trinity Lutheran Church (8th & Hudson St., Hoboken, NJ)

hoboken-jazz-playin-for-keeps.jpg“To be held on February 5th IT IS FAT TUESDAY!!! 6:30 P.M. ENJOY JAZZ and Help NEW ORLEANS.

Traditionally the night before ASH WEDNESDAY (early this year – February 6th) is a time to enjoy before the season of Lent, which is a somber and reflective time. Fat Tuesday is the time of Mardi Gras and of course we cannot think of Mardi Gras without thinking about New Orleans. Please come out and enjoy the sounds of “Playing for Keeps”. If you have never heard Don Depascale on horns and Roy Suter on the keyboards then here is your chance.

This is St. Matthew Trinity’s 150th Anniversary year!!! Our celebration is of the past AND of our commitment to keep on doing ministry right into the next century. Yes, we are playing for keeps as far as the ministry!! Furthermore, we want to extend the spirit of renewal to our brothers and sisters in New Orleans who are still trying to rebuild from hurricane Katrina, not just mortar and bricks, but the lives of people. We will take a free will offering and S.K. Duff, renowned local artist, will extend the opportunity for you to enjoy and purchase some beautiful art. This way we can make a collective contribution to the city of New Orleans who gave us all that jazz over the years and so much spirit. THE PROCEEDS WILL GO TO HELP REBUILD NEW ORLEANS.

COME and Join Us …We really want to see you and it for a great cause.”

If they had Chuck Mangione on flugelhorn instead, I’d go.
