What’s good at Carlo’s Bakery? {Cake Boss}

If you absolutely had to {Cake Boss}, what’s good at Carlo’s Bakery?

Here’s a little something to share! Former resident Kristin lived in Hoboken during the mid-2000’s, and has made the NYC tri-state area her home since, spending some time in Manhattan before landing in her current abode over in neighboring Jersey City. And she started a blog last summer called Souvenir Finder. – She felt it was necessary because finding true, meaningful reminders of her travels was getting more difficult, as “gift shops” and other “souvenir” items have become a watered-down commodities. And she recently came back to the Mile Square to find out what’s good at Carlo’s Bakery (the Cake Boss).

Diamonds in the rough at Carlo’s Bakery

Now while many true Hoboken residents don’t buy the whole reality TV hysteria and shop at Carlo’s “just because they watch them on TV,” (they know where the hidden gems of Hoboken are), Kristin did document what going to Carlo’s was like – and made some suggestions as to what are the best items Cake Boss has to offer.

Her “Junior Editors” Liz and Colin (her cousins) said the Lobster Tails and Cannolis (along with Italian Butter Cookies) were the must-have sweets you should get while there.

We told Kristin that she should check out the home-made doughnuts that Schnackenberg’s offers for her next trip to Hoboken!

About ten years ago when I first moved here I thought certain items were yummy. I have to say the last two times I have bought various selections I have been disappointed. The butter cookies are no different then generic grocery store. The cannolis and napoleons were blah. In my opinion Giorgios is much better.

Anything from any bakery tastes almost the same, butter and sugary and quite good. I can only tell the difference when it is packaged baked goods like Entenmann’s. I don’t know why anyone bitches about it. Fresh baked is fresh baked, unless they totally botch it.

Cakes a the shoprite bakery taste better at a fraction of the cost. Reality TV just adds to the cost without delivering anything more for the money.

In my humble opinion, Carlos’s cannolis are AWful….just AWful. I went there 3 separate times before they hit it big nationally with their TV show. I bought them as a desert for the holidays and they were an embarrassment all 3 times. Buddy should turn in his membership card to the Italian community as his cannolis can’t suck enough. You want a good cannoli then may I suggest Giorgio’s, A’Putia, Leo’s or even Shop Rite.
