Jackson Street Sewer Replacement

Jackson Street Sewer Replacement starts February 10th in Hoboken, NJ

Avoid the downtown area of Jackson Street starting next month. Three blocks of rotten sewer pipes slated for replacement. Notice how they waited until after the Super Bowl. Hopefully nothing bad happens before then.

Next on their list should be the pipes near the Shoprite uptown, but we’ll see if that happens anytime soon.

Jackson Street Sewer Replacement Hoboken NJ

Three phase project may take three months to complete

The North Hudson Sewerage Authority will begin work on February 10, 2014 to replace three blocks of combined sewer along Jackson Street, from Newark Street to 1st Street. The work is expected to last approximately 8 to 10 weeks.

The existing wooden box sewer, which was constructed in the 1870′s, has deteriorated and partially collapsed, creating blockages in the combined sewer system, which adversely affects drainage in the area. The result of the project will be improved drainage which will help to alleviate local flooding. With the exception of this section of sewer, almost all of the sewer system in Southwest Hoboken has been rehabilitated during the last decade.

Construction will take place in three phases as noted below, with each phase taking approximately 2 to 3 weeks to complete. For each phase, parking will be prohibited 24/7 on both sides along the corresponding block. Police will be on site at all times during construction to provide traffic control. The North Hudson Sewerage Authority will coordinate with the local businesses and residents to allow driveway access.

Phase 1 – Paterson Plank Rd to 1st St

  • Construction will take place 9:30am – 3:30pm.
  • The street will be closed to through traffic 9:30am – 3:30pm and will be reopened to traffic after 3:30pm.
  • The contractor will coordinate with residences on the street to provide driveway access in an effort to limit any inconvenience.

Phase 2 – Observer Hwy to Paterson Plank Rd

  • Construction will take place 9:30am – 3:30pm.
  • One lane of traffic will remain open at all times.

Phase 3 – Newark St to Observer Hwy

  • Construction will take place 9:30am – 3:30pm.
  • One lane of traffic will remain open at all times.
