Another day, another round of endorsements

Supporters are coming out in droves to back Mayoral candidate Peter Cammarano.

Police Officers Back Cammarano; “Best Qualified” to Protect Public

The Hoboken PBA is endorsing Peter Cammarano for Mayor of Hoboken.

“We strongly encourage all residents who care about the future of this city to join us in supporting Peter Cammarano on June 9,” said PBA President Vince Lombardi. “Peter is fully committed to public safety and will work with our membership to make sure that our families, homes and businesses are protected today and tomorrow.”

Lombardi said that Cammarano is showing real courage by opposing the state plan to lay-off 16 police officers as a budget-cutting measure. His opponent Dawn Zimmer has said she supports the lay-offs. “Peter Cammarano is proving that he has the right priorities for Hoboken and that he understands that sacrificing public safety is the wrong choice.”

Cammarano said he is proud to receive the police officers’ endorsement. “On July 4, about 35,000 visitors are coming to Hoboken to watch the Hudson River fireworks show,” he said. “Cutting public safety personnel is reckless and foolish.”

Cammarano is dedicated to creating a safer and more secure Hoboken for all of our families and residents and Lombardi’s endorsement underscores this commitment to the City.

    Former Councilman Richard DelBoccio

“As a life-long Hoboken resident, educator and City Council member, I have had the pleasure to meet many of you over the years and, hopefully, have been of assistance to you as a neighbor or public official.

As we approach the crucial June 9th municipal elections, I urge you all to support my friend and former City Council colleague Peter Cammarano for mayor, as well as his entire at-large council slate of Angel Alicea, Vincent Addeo and Raul Morales, II.

Over the past four years, Peter has shown professionalism and leadership on the City Council, rising to every occasion to separate politics from sound policy. Peter has demonstrated compassion and objectivity in facing the issues of the day. This was especially evident by his fulfilling the responsibility of a council member to introduce the municipal budget. His opponent, meanwhile, chose to abstain and allow state intervention of our fiscal matters.

Peter is not afraid to confront tough issues and reach fair conclusions. He will serve us well as mayor in a time of uncertainly on a local and national level.

Please join me and support Peter and his team on June 9th.

    Richard Del Boccio

    An immediate success!

Swung by the Clinton Social last night to check it out. The new bar/restaurant already seems to be a winner! Owner Dave Carney did a fantastic job, and had a very capable and professional staff. I even got to sample their homemade fried Mozzarella, which was out of this world!

HPD does their job – once again!

While at the Elysian Park dog run yesterday – I noticed that a Hoboken Policeman (on a battery-operated modified Segway) – “pulled over” a black Mercedes SUV along Sinatra Drive… I thought this picture was cool – A giant gas-guzzling vehicle getting stopped by a “green” eco-friendly manned personal scooter.

Anyway – the woman was let go without incident (although it looks like he’s writing a summons). Just because you think these guys just ride around staring at chicks – doesn’t mean they don’t do their job!

Kiss me, and I’ll tell you it’s another new store

I don’t like seeing “revolving door” businesses anywhere – but this sub-street level location at 728 Washington seems to be one of them.

Replacing Eva’s Shoes – is another retail apparel store called “Kiss & Tell Women’s Clothing Boutique.”

I haven’t had a chance to swing by and get the scoop – but will update this post in the upcoming week or two. I wish them luck nonetheless!

    5/29/2009:

    Mommy Mayhem

mommy-mayhem-in-hobokenFunny how political minds work in this town, especially the newbies. I get a note from one mom who wants to bring my attention to an endorsement by another mom – and the Zimmer machine goes into full-on “attack and respond” mode.

Rachel Goldberg’s endorsement of Peter Cammarano was significant for a number of reasons, including the very high profile she had while working for Dawn Zimmer ‘07 and Kids First. Rachel’s name even comes up in Dawn’s voter fraud deposition, which should be required reading for the undecided voter.

Rachel is also significant because she represents someone the most strident Zimmer supporters claim doesn’t exist. She’s a young mother living downtown who follows Hoboken issues with an eye toward reform but doesn’t fall in line with the Michael Lenz view of the world.

So, in reaction to an endorsement from two moms, a Zimmer supporter has written a letter and gotten 60 moms to sign on to it. It’s designed to be a “show of force” for Dawn and an “in your face” to Rachel.

    Upon closer scrutiny…

Though each of the moms is a force to be reckoned with in their own right, none of them represents what Dawn Zimmer desperately needs to have a shot at winning: new blood.

From my read of the list all the moms were already on board with Zimmer in May, so it’s not exactly “breaking news” they are with her again in June. Frankly, if they wanted the list to be more impressive they would have avoided super-obvious people like Stacy Mello (candidate Dave’s wife) and Bindya Bhalla (candidate Ravi’s wife). Icy-veined Jen Cunningham (oops, did I just write that?) is Councilman Peter’s wife. She’s the one who sent out a blistering mass e-mail in the final days of the campaign calling Beth Mason “The Darth Vader of Hoboken” who had sunk “to the lowest of lows” and gone to “The Dark Side”. Way to keep things classy Jen.

They also could have avoided including elected officials like school board members Theresa Minutillo, Ruth McAllister and Rose Marie Markle, all of who have been on the record for Zimmer for quite a while.

Read more, including another letter of support – after the jump…
