Well, not really – but judging by the looks of it…
Why six cops?
Overheard this incident on the Hoboken411 Live Police and Fire Action Channel a couple hours ago – where a few concerned parents called the HPD about this homeless man sitting on the bench with his hands in his pocket – or even down his pants. You don’t get a fresh shower too often, I bet you’ll be rather itchy too.
I didn’t make much of it – until Hoboken411 reader Brian sent this photo in. “Six officers in Church Square Park arresting a homeless guy? Wow! Tax money at it’s finest!”
I find this trend of publicly displaying your unwanted items on the sidewalks of Hoboken very interesting.
Nearly each day of the week – you can find some assortment of objects, magazines, toys or outdated technology yours for the taking.
So what prompts most people to do this? The guilt of throwing something perfectly good out? Or just the hope that someone else will find a use for it? Conscience or kindness?

Hoboken411 reader Andrew has organized the first ever “Carrotmob” here in New Jersey! So why not have brunch this weekend and support a good cause (especially all you super-active “green” environmentalists in Hoboken!)
Hoboken Carrotmob
“Carrotmob is a reverse boycott – a buycott, if you will. Carpe Diem, an Irish bar/restaurant, has committed an astounding 70% of sales for energy efficiency upgrades back into their business on May 2 and May 3. That simply means that you have to go there and make a purchase. The more people buy stuff, the more energy efficient the business can become. Eat, drink, be merry – and make the world a better place!
Support Carpe Diem for making an environmentally responsible choice – and have fun as you do it! “
Where: Carpe Diem bar/restaruant located at 1405 Grand Street, Hoboken, NJ When: Saturday. May 2 and Sunday, May 3; 11am – 4pm RSVP: On Facebook – http://tiny.cc/TXp4c | Twitter: NJCarrotmob
Carrotmob – Some background:
It was started in San Fran last year and has been pretty viral. There has been Carrotmobs in Charleston, Kansas City, Brooklyn and more – but never in NJ. This is the first. News 12 NJ is doing a piece on it too – I am pleased for that. I also think Hoboken411 is perfect to tell Hobokenites about this!
Not sure about the rest of you – but when I see politicians and other commercial outlets following Obama’s campaign buzzword “Change,” I shake my head and laugh at the utter lack of originality and creativity.
They must think “Hey it worked for Obama – let’s copy him!” – and just toss the word around like it’s some magical formula for success.
For starters, “Change” is very broad word. Change how? For the better? for worse? For you? For me? For us? Generally? Superficially? Figuratively? What annoys me the most, is the lemmings of society that associate that word exclusively with “good,” or “positive” and so on.
One thing for sure in Hoboken is – that the nameplate on the desk of the Mayor will change – without a doubt. But for me, my use of the word will be reserved for change of $100, and some clean underpants.
Change comes in many shapes and forms
Here’s a photo gallery of “Change in Hoboken” – you tell me if it’s good, bad or “all of the above.”
(PS - for those that think this is some politically motivated post – it’s not. For one, I enjoyed the cartoon – and two, I had lots of “Hoboken stock photos” to dump – So I said, “why not?”)
[Every month, Hoboken411 will be posting a column to give answers to Hobokenites’ most frequently asked health questions. The column is written by Dr. Laura Brayton of Hoboken Chiropractic + Wellness. Please send all health-related questions to DrBrayton@HobokenChiro.com.]
Shedding the winter layer
“Dear Dr. Brayton,
I have gained some weight over the years and am now actively trying to take it off. There are so many diets out there and was wondering what you would recommend for someone who wants to lose weight properly and in a healthy way.
As we continue this week’s impromptu “blast from the past” series of photos – the heroic Hoboken411 reader sent another picture in – of Hoboken’s Finest during 1970’s. I can’t recognize anyone myself, so can you identify who’s who?
