Antonucci demands union givebacks

1/31/2009 Update:

Here’s an update from Donna Antonucci (on behalf of the Hoboken Tax Reform Coalition). Four updated slides; two for the HFD and two for the HPD.

HFD: Slide1Slide2
HPD: Slide1Slide2

1/16/2009 Update:

You can fill out an online petition if you want:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Unioncontractdemands/

Donna says:
“We need your name and address + the email so that we don’t have people filling it out with any address or the name “mickey mouse”. With an online petition the email address acts as a signature otherwise we can be accused of “printing” signatures. If people want to join the cause, they have to be brave enough to identify themselves and online that means your email address. The email address, yes, can be used to contact the signer but is also used to validate that the person did in fact, intend to join the chorus and support the cause. We will likely send an email to validate that the signers used a valid email address. We want to do that so that, again, no one can accuse us not knowing we have valid information. If we ‘ping’ the signers, we can say we did that check.”

    1/31/2009 Update:

Hoboken411 reader Brian submitted a few pictures of the car fire in all it’s flaming glory.

    1/31/2009:

In today’s first installment of “excitement on Washington Street” is a car fire in the bank parking lot on 3rd Street between Washington and Hudson.

Fire personnel arriving on the scene said it was a white pickup truck and the fire was confined to just under the hood.

Do you avoid politicians on Facebook?

In a recent NY Times article – “When Friends Aren’t Really Friends” – they discussed the pro’s and con’s of using Facebook – and how many people are using this service as a marketing tool.

One of Hoboken’s three council members at-large, Peter Cammarano was referenced.

“Councilman Peter Cammarano of Hoboken, N.J., uses his personal page to join Facebook groups like Hoboken Young Professionals or Hoboken Lawyers Alliance. Once in, he posts notes on the group’s bulletin board alerting members to fund-raisers. He says it’s far more productive to find potential supporters that way than standing outside a ShopRite handing out fliers, where he does not know if the people he approaches even live in Hoboken.”

[Continuing the ORIGINAL Hoboken411 "Photo of the Day" series...]

Hoboken Photos of the Day – 1/30/2009

I found this old picture of the current TD North Bank (was Commerce) building on Newark and Hudson on my hard drive. Not sure where I got it, or what year it was taken (early 1900’s I suppose).

But it’s interesting to see how development around this building has diminished it’s “might” over the years!

PS – if you have images collecting dust on your camera or hard drive – send them in for eventual inclusion on Hoboken411! Please state how you’d like to be credited in your email, and a description – if desired!!

  • A letter to Hoboken Reformers

    30

    January

    1/30/2009:

Hoboken411 received this letter yesterday from a “Concerned Citizen.”

    What are your thoughts?

    hoboken-is-home-to-governor-corzine-and-senator-menendez.jpg

Raising taxes is NOT an answer!

    “Hoboken Reformers,

I would like to thank you so much for all the information you have brought to light on so many areas in Hoboken. For attending council meetings and trying to get answers and bring about change. I wish I thought what you have done was enough but I think its time to take your findings to the next level.

Every media outlet is running story after story about the economy and the effects on everyday people, about the layoffs, and cutbacks being made in both the private and public sectors across the country. They love pointing to Wall St and bonuses and the effects that will have on everyone. I think now more than ever you have an opportunity to get the major networks to run a story on Hoboken and what you have found.

Hoboken is home to Governor Corzine and Senator Menendez two of the states highest government officials yet we have heard nothing from them. Why are they not outraged that they have had to pay 48% increase in taxes out of there own pockets, why are they not outraged raises are being handed out, why are they not outraged that we have 35 fire captains, why are they not outraged at the exuberant health care and vacation payouts being given, why are they not outraged at the per pupil cost in our schools, why are they not outraged the town they live in has such disregard for its citizens in this troubling economic time? I know its not there place to meddle in local government but as these two announce/vote on their state cutbacks and national bailouts Hoboken has made no changes other than 7 retirements and closing the cross town shuttle. Hoboken helped vote these two men into office, do they not owe it to us to use there political power to help its everyday citizens fight an uphill battle?

We have had this budget issue for over a year and no major cutbacks have been made even with the state involved. This is not just an issue of the economy, Hoboken has the economy and the bloated budget Roberts created over the past 8 years to deal with. Ask why Hoboken has not IMMEDIATELY made changes and followed Union City’s lead and demand all employees contribute to health care cost, North Bergen’s lead of a max of 10k for any accrued vacation/sick days, joined the North Hudson Regional Fire Dept, a X% reduction in workforce in all areas and so many other huge savings options. We are told time and time again by our World leaders and by CEO’s that there is no time to wait that action must be taken immediately to avoid dangerous consequences in the future, yet Hoboken in a years time has made no major policy changes to address our financial situation. Raising taxes on citizens who are already struggling is not an answer.

It’s time to have your impressive information of blatant over spending, possible illegal corruption and the lack of response from Corzine and Menendez brought to a bigger stage for all residents of Hoboken and statewide supporters of Corzine and Menendez to hear. This type of exposure for our two biggest government officials and our current administration will have a major impact on the speed and amount of reform you wish to bring and all residents hope to have.

    Thank you,
    Concerned Citizen

    re.Juice.a.Doomed

The 14th Street re.Juice.a.Nation has now become Healthy for Life “Meals and Supplements” spot.

I wonder if there’s a market for these expensive workout drinks? I mean the location isn’t all bad – considering it’s a block away from the uptown NYSC gym. As you can see from the updates after the break, the juice bar was for sale for a long time. However, I have no idea if the previous owners just “re-branded,” or if new owners took over. I was in a hurry. Anyone know?
