Anyone going to Bonnaroo?

April

4/30/2008:

Along the lines of the All Points West Festival this summer at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, is another massive four-day festival being held way out in Tennessee: The Bonnaroo Music Festival.

One reader has a simple question: “Is anyone from Hoboken headed down to Tennesee for the Bonnaroo music festival, maybe head down as a group and camp near during the festival?”

bonnaroo-tennessee.jpgThe Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival is a four-day annual music festival created and produced by Superfly Productions and AC Entertainment, first held in 2002. The festival is held on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, 60 miles southeast of Nashville, Tennessee. The main attractions of the festival are the multiple stages of live music, featuring a diverse array of musical styles including indie folk, world music, hip hop, jazz, americana, bluegrass, country music, folk, gospel, reggae, electronica, and other alternative music. The festival began with a primary focus on jam bands, but has diversified greatly in recent years. The festival features craftsmen and artisans selling unique products, food and drink vendors, and many other activities including some put on by various sponsors. Sponsors of the festival are required to provide free activities for attendees.

Check out the lineup! Impressive!

    4/30/2008 Bump:

Another video I’d like to bring back for an “encore presentation,” as we’d all like to know (and are placing bets) as to when this type of incident will happen again. Also, to keep our politicians on their toes. We don’t forget.

    8/13/2007:

Threw a quick video slide show together to include some of other the pictures of last week’s flooding that were received. Lots of garbage floating around.

See other stuff after the jump…

Plenty of legal beagles will be in attendance at next week’s free legal workshop over in Jersey City

    Law Day 2008

law-day-2008-free-legal-workshop-jersey-city.jpgThe Superior Court of New Jersey, Hudson Vicinage, in partnership with the Hudson County Bar Association and the Criminal Subcommittee of the Advisory Committee on Minority Concerns, will host Court Night in honor of Law Day 2008. This free legal workshop, which is open to residents of Hudson County, will be held on Wednesday, May 7th, at the Justice William J. Brennan Courthouse, 583 Newark Avenue, Jersey City, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“We look forward to Court Night as an opportunity to help the public better understand the work of the courts and the services that we can provide,” said Assignment Judge Maurice J. Gallipoli. “Our highly qualified panelists will offer a wealth of information to self-represented litigants, consumers, students and interested citizens who want to learn more about their court system.”

The program will provide information on immigration, landlord/tenant disputes, domestic violence, divorce, child support, and expungements of criminal records. For each session, a panel of judges, court staff and attorneys will present the legal and practical aspects concerning the subject matter and then answer questions from the audience. As this is an informational workshop only, no personal cases can be discussed or resolved.

The seminar is free; however, those wishing to attend should make a reservation by calling CariAnn Rizzolo at 201-217-5109 or send an email to hudson.reservation@judiciary.state.nj.us. Callers should indicate first and second choice of informational session, as well as their name, telephone number and what time of day would be best for them to receive a confirmation call regarding their registration.

    4/30/2008:

    This makes me chuckle!

Today is the deadline for all public officials in Hoboken to have their signed financial disclosure statements in to the City Clerk (or as the memo said: “CITK CLERK”).

Care to take bets? Who will/won’t submit the proper paperwork on time?

Seems to be an ongoing “trend” in our fair city.

    4/30/2008:

As we all know, the 2008 Spring Arts and Music Festival is coming up this weekend. And this year’s headline act is Mickey Dolenz, of The Monkees.

Since both Micky and I both have hectic schedules, it was a bit hard to get an extended interview with him. However I was able to quickly ask him a few short questions off the top of my head.

Read what he has to say below!

    411 chats with Micky Dolenz

    • How did you get the Hoboken Gig?
I’ve been doing more and more shows each year … and, this event came into our view … and, we went for it. I love playing on the East Coast … so, here we are. Should be a terrific show … am really looking forward to it. I’m intrigued by the whole affair.
    • Have you been to Hoboken before? If so, where did you go?
I’m told I had a very good time … the last time. Truth is, it has been a while, but I know it will be terrific. Great audiences and fans there.
    • What songs do you plan on singing at the festival? Would you take a request from Hoboken residents?
When I play live, I believe I have a responsibility with the audience to play the old songs … and, play them the same way. No reggae version of “Last Train To Clarksville.” Actually, we have a few surprises in store too. As far as requests go … let’s see what happens.
    • I understand you are also a film director. What do you enjoy more? Performing or directing?
I enjoy them both equally. Directing is another thing entirely … I love directing and intend to do more. Its working another set of muscles, if you will. Just like Broadway, which I’m doing more and more of, AIDA, PIPPIN’ … it is a great exercise.
    • What’s going on with the Hall of Fame? What will it take to get you inducted? How can we help you?
The Rock & Roll thing is a private club … and, we’ve not yet been invited to the party.
    • If you’re still performing in the year 2016, will there be a 50 year Monkees reunion?
I’ve learned ‘never to say never.’

Thanks Micky, we look forward to hearing some of your classics this weekend! Weather looks perfect too!

[Note: This is a Hoboken411 reader contributed article. There will be one or more "reader articles" a day this week.]

    Cheers and Jeers:

Midtown Hoboken New Construction and Renovation
    by Realty Genie

Waterfront buildings get a lot of attention, but most of Hoboken lives west of Washington Street. For better or worse, we have to live with a lot of our neighbors’ decisions about building frontage. We can’t appeal to any gods of good taste, but we can rave and rant here on Hoboken411. Following are the best and worst of recent building work between 5th and 8th Streets, from Washington Street back to Clinton Street. These are all my personal opinions regarding only aesthetics from the sidewalk. I have not been in any of these buildings and offer no judgment on the quality of the construction. Being only a genie and not a licensed agent, I will not make any money on their sales or rentals. I only care because I want my neighborhood to look its best.

    Cheers:

One cheer goes to these two buildings on Willow Avenue. The one on the right is still under construction and has a realtor’s sign saying the units there are for rent. The larger building is a bit hulking and has a boring cornice (the part at the top just under the roof), but they stuck mainly to brick and stone and didn’t try to be too flashy.
