Fire 514 Madison St.

30

September

As heard on the live police scanner, there was apparently a “working fire” over at 514 Madison St. (Senior Citizen building). It seems as if the sprinkler system had assisted, and the fire has now been extinguished, though heavy smoke conditions still persist.

As of 8:51pm, primary search indicated no serious injuries.

Well, it took to the last day of the Major League Baseball season to decide the outcome of the National League Playoff scenario.

Philadelphia fans rejoice, and NY Mets fans sulk in what was the worst September collapse in baseball history. Glavine gets shelled for 7 runs in 0.1 innings, and the Phillies cruise to a 6-1 victory.

What will happen in the first round of the playoffs?

Here’s a few polls (see new World Series Poll to the left, too!):

The brief shower that cooled us off yesterday left a cool rainbow behind, spanning the entire city.

Thanks Jason for the pics (411 tried piecing the two together).

    9/28/2007 Alert:

brown-water.jpg“The Hoboken Police Department has advised that on Monday, October 1, 2007, United Water – Jersey City maintenance crews will shut down the water supply aqueduct for the City of Jersey City to perform a several week long inspection of the 100-year old tunnel system and perform maintenance work at the water treatment plant. The aqueduct will be closed for about three to four weeks to allow engineering teams the opportunity to inspect the aqueduct. This will also effect the Hoboken area.

The Newark and Passaic Valley Water Commission will supply customers with water during the shutdown. You may experience some discolored water while the tunnel is shutdown for inspection.

Customers are asked to conserve water during this period. Residents of the area should use water only for essential purposes such as taking quicker showers in the morning and washing only full loads of dishes and clothes at night. The goal is to have minimal, if any, discoloration. Should there be any discoloration, it poses no health threat, but can be aesthetically unpleasant. You should, however, let it run clear before washing clothes.

You may want to drink bottle water during this period for your own piece of mind but we remind you that all pantry sinks are equipped with hot and cold water filters.
