Beer League premier party at Madison

30

September

9/30/06 Update:
Well, it seems that this movie has officially tanked. All the promotion on Howard, the big premiere party at the Madison, and it hasn’t even made 20% of the budget back.

Here’s the stats:

Budget: $2.8M
Opening weekend: $275k
Total Gross: $475k

9/15/06:
beerleaguejpg.jpgWe stopped into Madison last night around 5pm for a quick half-priced happy hour drink or seven, and stumbled on some premier party for Artie Lange’s new movie Beer League.

The party was supposed to be from 7 to 9, and they had a guest list, and were handing out blue wrist bands for the open bar. They weren’t letting people in before 9.

The staff cleared most of the bar stools out and were formally dressed. At around 7 they started walking around with various appetizers, like chicken fingers, pigs-in-a-blanket, pizza, jalapeño poppers, and more. The bar started getting pretty packed after 8.

Several of the TV’s were looping a DVD of his uncensored 3 minute movie trailer. In addition, they were handing out movie paraphernalia. We got some hats, t-shirts and beer can coolers with the movie logo on it.

A few of the co-stars of the movie were also present to sign a movie poster. We wanted to say hi to Artie before we left, but he seemed to have left before us. He went out for a smoke and disappeared. Maybe he had to go home for something (he lives in the Constitution North building around the corner).

To add to the “premier” feeling of this event, they also had a spotlight truck outside of the bar. So what started out as having a few quick drinks turned into something a little more interesting than usual.

As a reader wrote in here http://hoboken411.com/archives/4072#comment-4159, her car was pointlessly broken into on the corner of 7th and Madison with no real gain for the criminal. They just smashed and ruined a set of keys that were important to her. Senseless vandals.

lightthenight.GIFThe Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is having their evening Light The Night walk to build awareness of blood cancers and raise funds for cures. This will be taking place at Pier A during the evening on Saturday the 30th.

Walkers carry illuminated balloons-white for survivors and red for supporters-to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer.

Funds raised by participants support the Society’s mission: cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Anyone can take part-children, adults and seniors are all welcome. This is a casual one to three mile Walk with no fitness requirements.

A “Where is this?” photo quiz was published a few weeks ago, and now it’s time for round 2.

Still pretty easy for the most part. Name where each of these locations are:

Number 1( I just find the illustration funny):

  • Recent Poll Recap

    September

Hoboken 411 has run some random user opinion polls over the past months. Below is a recap of the food establishments and other questions that were up for vote. Note that readership has gone up tremendously each month, so the poll votes have increased as well. Keep checking back for new polls, such as today’s “Best Sushi in Hoboken”. Note that two new places, Teak and the uptown Sushi House Bar and Lounge will not be included in this poll, since they’re not open yet.

See the charts with the rest of the votes below each summary:

    Best Burger in Hoboken.
This was a very tight race. Not sure why I didn’t put Oddfellow’s in there, as that is my favorite.

    1. (tie) Black Bear & Ted and Jo’s
    2. Three A’s
    3. Zack’s

    poll-number-4-best-burger.png

    Best Pizza in Hoboken.
Was a runaway poll with the top two coming very close to each other.

    1. Grimaldi’s
    2. Benny Tudino’s
    3. Uptown Pizzeria

    poll-number-6-best-pizza.png

    Best Wings in Hoboken.
Another tight race with the top 3 coming within one vote of one another. Again, not sure why Oddfellow’s wasn’t even included. I need to get a clue, they’re my favorite wings as well.

    1. (tie) Chicken & Rib Crib and Black Bear
    2. 10th and Willow
    3. Rogo’s

    poll-number-5-best-wings.png

    Best Chinese takeout in Hoboken.
I personally cannot tell the difference most of the time. But we had a clear winner here. After the top three, the next 4 places came within 5 votes of each other.

    1. Precious
    2. Hoboken Cottage
    3. Aroma

As all of you have already noticed, there are many banner ads on Hoboken411.com, just like any other website. We like to offer advertising and get the word out for others and to help fund the site.

amazon.jpgHowever, I’m certain a number of you already purchase items regularly from Amazon.com, which is one of my favorite sites to buy many things. The UPS trucks are usually filled with Amazon boxes. They’re inexpensive, very reliable and their website is phenomenal.

One simple and painless way to help support Hoboken411 without spending an extra cent out of your pocket is to purchase your Amazon items through our Amazon Associates Program link. It won’t affect your Amazon account, no personal information would be divulged, and it would be just like ordering as if you typed Amazon.com in your browser. This will help fund the resources necessary to keep the site going for the foreseeable future. It would be a nice gesture to show your support.

If you’re willing, could you be so kind as to bookmark this link (http://tinyurl.com/zv4yp) and use it each time you order anything from Amazon.com, I’d be very appreciative! Good karma goes a long way these days!

I thank you all in advance!

    This just sounds weird.

The cook from Maxwell’s ran all the way to the 14th St. Fire House to tell them that two lost female juveniles (one 18, and one 15) are in front at 1039 Washington Street. They were apparently “seeing a show”.

    A) it’s 2:00am on early Thursday morning, why are two female juveniles even milling around?
    B) what are they doing by Maxwell’s?
    C) why don’t they have a responsible adult with them?

I’m sure this episode of Lost will not make it to prime time. Here’s an idea, maybe they should re-do those 10:00pm public service announcements played near the evening news.

“It’s 2:00am, did you know your teenage daughter was at a bar?”
